A new rumor claims a sequel to MindsEye may be in development at Build a Rocket Boy, but its future remains unclear after the new action-adventure title had a disastrous launch earlier this month. MindsEye is the first game to be released by Build a Rocket Boy after being founded in 2018 by former Rockstar Games president and Grand Theft Auto producer, Leslie Benzies. But after receiving some of the worst reviews of the year, the studio's plans may have been knocked off course.

Fans of Rockstar's iconic Grand Theft Auto series kept a close eye on Leslie Benzies following his departure from the studio, with many eager to see where the famed developer would end up next. After revealing MindsEye during Gamescom 2022, gamers were hopeful that it could be a solid competitor to Grand Theft Auto. Unfortunately, despite initial promise during its reveal, MindsEye launched to negative reviews on Steam earlier this month. Although some players praised the excellent driving mechanics and somewhat interesting story elements and characters, poor performance, severe bugs, and low FPS on current-gen consoles left a sour taste in players' mouths.

As players navigate MindsEye’s story and side content throughout the city of Redrock, these unwritten rules can be particularly handy to learn.

Build a Rocket Boy has since addressed MindsEye's bug-ridden launch and promised to rectify the issues with a steady stream of new updates. While the studio appears to be fully committed to improving the overall gameplay experience of MindsEye, it looks like it may also be actively working on a sequel. According to Spanish YouTuber BaityBait (via Reddit), Build a Rocket Boy also has plans for MindsEye 2, which will be a multiplayer sequel released in 2026. Unfortunately, the credibility of this YouTuber has yet to be proven, so it's recommended that fans take this rumor with a huge grain of salt.

MindsEye 2's Future Remains Unknown

One point also mentioned by BaityBait is that there's a strong chance Build a Rocket Boy's plans for a sequel have now changed after MindsEye became the worst-reviewed game of the year. Given that both players and critics have blasted the title, it seems highly unlikely that the studio would be full steam ahead with a sequel. Plus, the post-launch roadmap for MindsEye also details the studio's plans to add a multiplayer mode to the game later down the line, which would be kind of pointless if it had plans for a multiplayer-focused sequel. The roadmap also outlines the timeline for new missions, collaborations, and more.

Assuming that the multiplayer sequel hasn't been canned following MindsEye's failure, it would be the second project that Build a Rocket Boy has in the works, according to the YouTuber. While the information has yet to be verified by a more trustworthy source, it is said that Build a Rocket Boy is also developing a game based on a popular TV show. The IP is supposedly quite a big one, but it was once again noted that these plans may have changed drastically following the launch of MindsEye. For now, we recommend taking this information with a massive grain of salt until the studio confirms its future plans itself.
