Games featuring a bug or two at launch are nothing unusual - several major launches in recent years, including Assassin's Creed Unity, Cyberpunk 2077, and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, among others, gained notoriety for their early-days bugs. Now, another game seems to have joined this elite crowd: MindsEye, an action-adventure game from Build a Rocket Boy. Within hours of the game's release, MindsEye players shared a startling variety of bugs they encountered while exploring Redrock City.

Prior to its launch, people were mostly talking about MindsEye as a possible replacement for Grand Theft Auto 6 following the latter's delay. Post-launch, however, it's all about the bugs. Players are taking to social media sites to share their favorite and least favorite bugs, from the hilarious to the downright creepy.

MindsEye's Bugs Are Varied And Unsettling

The number and variety of MindsEye and errors shared on social media bring to mind the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 or other similarly glitchy titles. On X, user @viktorlindn shared an image of a pedestrian's limbs suddenly stretching and body rapidly spinning as MindsEye protagonist Jacob Diaz drove past them; the post quickly amassed over 50,000 views.

Other users, including @Quxvyy and @SynthPotato, describe the game as unplayable and "a complete technical disaster." @SynthPotato shared a screenshot from Reddit user Odd_Revolution_1056 in which an NPC's eyes appear to be in the process of popping out of their head, while @NikTekOfficial demonstrated that the game stutters even when performing such simple tasks as getting in and out of the player's vehicle. Entrepreneur Marco Silva may be a tech genius in-universe, but his Silva-brand drones, robots and vehicles don't seem to be standing up to their impressive pedigree.

All versions of the game have reported stuttering, with the PC version in particular noted to experience crashes and near-constant FPS issues. Several MindsEye players have sought refunds and have taken to social media to warn others against purchasing or playing the game until the issues have been addressed. Unfortunately, rumors are swirling on social media that some players' refunds have been denied despite low playtime, although this cannot be confirmed at this time.

MindsEye Has Quickly Received Negative Reviews

Almost immediately after launch, negative reviews began to be published on Steam and other platforms. As of this writing, MindsEye has a rating of "Mostly Negative" on Steam, with over 200 of the game's 300+ reviews giving it a negative score. Reviewers report that the story and characters are decently enjoyable, with some comparing the game's plot to the Mafia or Saints Row games. However, any positives seem to be generally outweighed by the crashes, bugs, and other rampant issues that make actually enjoying the game's story nearly impossible.

@NikTekOfficial was one of several users who questions why Build A Rocket Boy chose not to delay MindsEye despite the game's obvious issues. He accompanied this musing with a clip that shows Jacob Diaz shooting at a car, causing its occupant to seemingly teleport onto the road beneath the vehicle. Another clip from NikTek showed an NPC shooting in the completely wrong direction during a firefight with Diaz, while a third shows a car supposedly "tailing" Diaz while staying completely still.

It is certainly possible that MindsEye can recover from this less-than-ideal launch - Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red put work into improving the game's performance, and the game is now generally well-regarded. It remains to be seen how Build a Rocket Boy will respond to the game's many glitches and issues, and whether they will be able to sway the public's currently negative opinion.
