Build A Rocket Boy has revealed new details about MindsEye's creation tools, as well as its ambitious post-launch plans for the game. These insights arrive exactly two weeks ahead of MindsEye's mid-June release.

MindsEye was originally announced in March 2023, with Build A Rocket Boy describing it as a game-within-a-game sort of experience, playable from within its Grand Theft Auto rival Everywhere. While the Scottish studio is far from the first company to attempt to compete with GTA, its attempt stands out due to its founder and director, Leslie Benzies, the former lead developer on the GTA franchise.

Former Rockstar Developer Showcases New Game That Looks Like Sci-Fi GTA

New trailers show off driving and gunplay that's reminiscent of a science-fiction GTA in a new game directed by a former Rockstar developer.

Build A Rocket Boy today premiered another MindsEye trailer, sharing it alongside new details about its Game Creation Tools. A feature of Everywhere, the tools will allow players to add a wide variety of content to the game, combining existing assets into new scenarios set in MindsEye's cyberpunk world. The creation toolkit will be integrated into Build A Rocket Boy's User Generated Content (UGC) platform, which is also expected to support other Everywhere games in the future.

MindsEye Promises Steady Stream of Post-Launch Content

While the details on the UGC integration are still scarce, what's clear already is that the Game Creation Tools will be designed with accessibility in mind. Build A Rocket Boy describes them as "deceptively easy-to-use," capable of creating both small and elaborate scenarios, ranging from high-speed chases to stealth missions akin to those seen in MindsEye's March 2025 trailer. The Scottish studio itself will be using these tools to produce a consistent stream of post-launch content, including new challenges and missions. The developer will also periodically add additional assets that players will be able to incorporate into their own creations, further incentivizing them to help with evolving the game.

MindsEye Developer's Content Plans Span Decades

"MindsEye has a future filled with diverse episodes and interactive experiences that will keep the Build A Rocket Boy universe rapidly expanding for decades to come," the company said in a prepared statement. While user-generated content is framed as one of the game's key selling points, MindsEye also promises a memorable story mode centered on former soldier Jacob Diaz, who is on a mission to uncover the truth about his mysterious past.

Build A Rocket Boy's GTA rival is scheduled for release on June 10. MindsEye will be available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Pre-orders have been open since March, priced at $59.99. All pre-orders will automatically be upgraded to the Deluxe Edition, which includes two cosmetic packs, along with access to some extra playable content, like the "Horde Mode" mission. The Deluxe Edition is expected to be sold separately following the game's release, though Build A Rocket Boy has not yet announced its price. The studio has also not clarified whether any portion of MindsEye's post-launch content updates will be paid.
