  • Game performance is currently Build a Rocket Boy's top priority.

Build a Rocket Boy has provided new details on the first post-launch update for MindsEye, the studio's first release since forming in 2018. After what can only be described as a disastrous launch earlier this week, Build a Rocket Boy says it is aware that MindsEye "hasn't been without its challenges," but promises to release a new hotfix update for PC users by the end of the week. The studio intends to address numerous stability issues and bugs in the update, but console players will have to wait a little longer for the patch.

With ex-Rockstar Games president Leslie Benzies at the helm, Grand Theft Auto fans were keeping a close eye on MindsEye following its reveal at Gamescom in 2022. But as the game's release drew nearer and nearer, the community became skeptical as to whether or not it could live up to expectations. Previews for the game then blasted it as a "broken mess," as many said it was filled with bugs, glitches, and stability issues. Although there were some who praised the game's driving mechanics and story, Build a Rocket Boy's co-CEO claimed the negative reaction to MindsEye was a paid effort against the studio. Unfortunately, the game's release hasn't exactly proven the early previews to be incorrect, but the studio does intend on fixing its most severe issues promptly.

First Post-Launch MindsEye Update Coming This Week

Build a Rocket Boy was quick to address the game's bug-filled launch this week and promised new fixes for MindsEye were in the works. Now, less than two days after its release, the studio has outlined its plans for the game's first post-launch update. In a new statement on Twitter, Build a Rocket Boy said it knows the launch of MindsEye "hasn't been without its challenges." The studio then noted that its top priority is game performance, while also apologizing for MindsEye's high system requirements on PC. "Improving performance across all devices is our immediate focus," the studio said. CPU, GPU, and RAM performance improvements, as well as numerous other fixes, will be rolled out for PC users by the end of the week. As for console users, the update will roll out "as soon as possible."

The statement goes on to explain that the upcoming patch will be the first in a series of updates "aimed at enhancing [players'] experience." While MindsEye initially received negative reviews on Steam at launch, it now appears to have a "mixed" review rating on the platform, with 40% of its 1,247 reviews being positive. Many of the game's negative reviews cite performance issues such as stuttering and low FPS, with some even calling it an "absolute mess." But, with that being said, even some of the game's negative reviews explain how MindsEye has the potential to be a great game with further improvements and fixes.

Although the studio will now be focused on some much-needed performance improvements for its first title, MindsEye does have some ambitious post-launch plans. According to the game's content roadmap for 2025, MindsEye will have both a free and premium pass, both of which will feature new missions for players to check out. Fans can also expect a special Hitman collaboration to arrive in July, followed by an update in the Fall that will add new single-player modes, multiplayer, new missions, and more.
