Minecraft updates are always something to look forward to, and the next one has players particularly excited. The next game drop, Titled Chase the Skies, is expected to introduce a slew of content, but the most significant addition that has caught the attention of many is the Happy Ghast. It is a more passive version of the floating enemy, and one that players can mount after undergoing the necessary steps to allow the action. While it is indeed something to look forward to, one aspect of this feature will determine whether it's something players will consistently lean on or if it will end up becoming a mob whose defining feature feels pointless. In particular, the speed of the Happy Ghast will determine how well-received the new Minecraft mount will be, and thanks to the update's preview making them look sluggish, players may end up thinking little of this long-awaited addition.

A growing trend of seemingly small changes across previous and upcoming updates could finally prompt Mojang to revamp Minecraft's skies and mountains.

Why Minecraft's Upcoming Happy Ghast Needs to Be Fast

When exploring or living in Minecraft's Nether, players who encounter regular Ghasts will immediately realize that they are slow-moving creatures. The Happy Ghast should be the complete opposite, with it being able to move quicker than its more aggressive counterpart. As for why this should be the case, there are some clear reasons to support the suggestion:

  • Players will likely want to use the Happy Ghast to help make it easier to create tall vertical structures, and being fast will make the new mount more sought after and invaluable for this process.
  • If the Happy Ghast retain the same speed as they do in the preview, then they'll likely be ignored, especially since there's such a lengthy process behind acquiring something slower than a player's normal walking movement.
  • The Elytra in Minecraft already exists, and while it takes time to get and may not grant full flight control, it would likely be preferable over a slow-moving Happy Ghast, assuming no changes are made to the flying mount's speed.

Although it's expected for Happy Ghasts to be slow once they're officially in the game and usable, it would be to their detriment if they are. Hopefully, there will be changes to their flying speed before the update is released, because if there are not, they'll likely become a novelty instead of a game-changing feature.

How One Change Can Prevent Worry Over the Happy Ghast’s Speed

If, upon release, the Happy Ghast remains slow like it was in the preview, then one thing that can be done to make this base speed acceptable is to give players a way to increase it. Perhaps it can be fed an item that allows it to move faster for a duration, something like powder snow for instance. Not only would this make sense thematically, but it would also be easy to gather, as all players need to do is explore until they find one of the many snow biomes of Minecraft and then start the gathering process. While it may be another step to take to get the most out of the flying mount, it at least provides the option for players to fly through the air slowly or quickly, which is something many would likely appreciate.

The upcoming Happy Ghast of Minecraft has a lot of pressure on it to be a hit, as it will be the first official mount that grants players the freedom of flight. The best way to ensure that gamers are satisfied with it is if it takes to the air at great speeds, which means Mojang may want to consider altering its current mobility before it's released via the Chase the Skies update.
