Fans of Minecraft have a lot to look forward to this month, with Mojang recently announcing that the Chase the Skies game drop will launch across all platforms on June 17 alongside the release of Vibrant Visuals on Bedrock Edition. This upcoming Minecraft content drop was originally teased earlier this year during the annual Minecraft LIVE event and will introduce the adorable new ghastling and happy ghast mobs to the game, among a handful of other additions.
Fans have been able to preview the content drop's new features in experimental versions of Minecraft over the past couple of months, and the happy ghast has quickly become a community-favorite mob, even among players who haven't had the chance to jump into the game's snapshot versions. This friendly variant of the iconic Nether-dweller isn't like most mobs, though, in that players can only meet a happy ghast by raising one themselves. Fans will first need to rescue an uncommon new block called the dried ghast from the Nether, and bring it back to the Overworld to submerge it in water. After a while, the block will fully hydrate and become a chirpy little ghastling, which can then be cared for and fed with snowballs to grow into an adult happy ghast.

A growing trend of seemingly small changes across previous and upcoming updates could finally prompt Mojang to revamp Minecraft's skies and mountains.
A new game drop trailer recently revealed by Mojang confirms that the official launch of this upcoming content is mere days away, releasing across all platforms on June 17. This will finally bring Minecraft's beloved happy ghast to all players across both Java and Bedrock Editions, granting players not only a cute new mob to care for, but a mob that they can even ride upon to travel through the skies of their worlds. The happy ghast is particularly helpful for players who like to work on grand, vertical builds, as they can be stood upon and used as mobile aerial platforms in place of traditional scaffolding.
Minecraft's Bedrock Edition Is Getting More Than a New Game Drop On June 17th
The Chase the Skies drop also includes a new music disk which can be acquired from regular ghasts found throughout the Nether, overhauled leashing mechanics and an updated crafting recipe for leads, craftable saddles, and a handy new player locator feature on the HUD which allows fans to track down other players on their multiplayer worlds. As if the Chase the Skies patch didn't give players enough to chew on, its launch on June 17 will also be accompanied by the official debut of Minecraft's Vibrant Visuals on Bedrock Edition only.
Vibrant Visuals is an ambitious visual overhaul for Minecraft as a whole, and though it's rolling out exclusively on Bedrock Edition for now, Mojang has confirmed plans to bring it to Java Edition later down the line. Vibrant Visuals will be compatible with Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, iOS, and PC on June 17, but will not be supported during split-screen play on a single device.
