The latest update in Minecraft added a lot of cool new things, but the Boat With Chest is surprisingly one of the more exciting ones. Players have long struggled to move their items from one place to another since chests in Minecraft can't be moved around without all of their contents spilling out onto the floor. With this new item, players can store their items on a chest within a boat, meaning it can be ferried around anywhere there's water. This opens up a world of possibility for moving items from one place to another, as the only reliable way to do this before was with minecarts.
Minecraft players have had access to boats for a very long time now, but the ability to make a boat with a chest in it is new to the 1.19 update called The Wild Update. As one might expect, the recipe for crafting this item is quite simple, but its utility can't be understated. As long as players are playing on the 1.9 version of the game, they should have access to this crafting recipe.
Minecraft - How to Make Boat With Chest
Crafting a Boat With Chest is super easy, as players simply need a boat and a chest. Put both of these items in the crafting table in any order and the player will get a Boat With Chest that they can use to row their goods around their world. This recipe works with any kind of boat, including the new Mangrove Boat, so as long as players are familiar with how to make a boat in Minecraft, this recipe should be no problem. All total, players need 13 wooden planks in order to make a Boat With Chest (eight for the chest and five for the boat).
Minecraft - Using a Boat With Chest
A Boat With Chest has the inventory size of a single chest, or 27 spaces. Players can store items in it and then use it just like any other boat. The only difference is that the Boat With Chest can only hold one player as opposed to two since the chest is taking up a spot. It's extra important to avoid letting the boat break while ferrying items, though, as if this happens the player's items will all sink to the bottom.
This new item provides the mobility of chests from the Minecart With Chest without the hassle of needing rails. Whether players are bringing items across the open ocean or making their own canals and rivers to bring things inland, the Boat With Chest is sure to help with moving from base to base or those Minecraft veterans with more nomadic playstyles.
Minecraft is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X.
