The changes to Minecraft in 2021 have been dubbed the "Caves & Cliffs" update, as the focus of these updates has been on adding to and enhancing the terrain both on the surface and underground. While version 1.17 included a lot of the items that were supposed to be blended into the landscape changes, version 1.18 was when players saw real differences in world generation.

One element of Minecraft's 1.17 update, which was released back in June 2021, was the amount of greenery and plants that the developers at Mojang threw in. This included the Dripleaf, which comes in both a big form and a small form. Here's how players can find this item, and what to do with it once they have it.

How To Get Dripleaf

Blocks added in Minecraft 1.17

There are a few ways to get Small Dripleaf. The first place players should check is in the lush caves biome, as they will likely be coming out of the ground or the water. When players see this and break it with their fist, however, the Small Dripleaf will not drop. Unfortunately, any method of getting this item will likely fail unless players get some shears. With this tool, players will easily be able to pick up the Small Dripleaf.

In addition, there is a small chance a player can get the item through a wandering trader. Most times, the wandering trader offers two leaves for one emerald.

Similar to its small form, Big Dripleaf can be found naturally generated in the lush caves on the ground. However, these larger variants are actually a lot easier to harvest, as they can be picked up using any method, though the axe is highly recommended. Breaking a Dripleaf plant will drop the big leaf plus additional big leaves depending on the height of the stem. Players can also use bonemeal on a Small Dripleaf to get a Big Dripleaf up to five-stem tall.

What Does Dripleaf Do?

For those who have an abundance of Small Dripleaf, there are a few options available. Firstly, Small Dripleaf makes a nice decorative piece that can be placed on clay and moss blocks. If players want to place the dripleaf underwater, the surfaces that it can be placed on expand to dirt, coarse dirt, farmland, grass blocks, mycelium, podzol, and rooted dirt.

Big Dripleaf can also be placed on all of these surfaces, but the only difference is that it does not need to be placed underwater. When placed, it will be one block tall, but will either grow on its own or can be grown manually using some bonemeal. The larger dripleaf can serve as a temporary place for players to stand. However, the leaf will slowly begin to fold down and will drop the player after a short period of time. This drop can be prevented by using Redstone on the leaf. Players can also shoot the leaf to fold it, something that can't be prevented by Redstone.

Minecraft is available on PC, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
