Minecraft is one of the largest games in the world for a reason, giving players all around the globe endless hours of entertainment. Players can try to eke out a living while exploring the world in survival or build the most incredible things they can think of, like a floating steampunk city. What players do is entirely up to them, but anyone interested in building something nice will want to get some terracotta.

Terracotta is a brick that can be produced in a range of different colors, giving real visual interest to buildings in Minecraft. Some types of terracotta can be found in different biomes in the game, or they can be constructed using clay. The badlands biome can contain red, orange, yellow, brown, white, and gray terracotta, while light blue terracotta can be found in underwater ruins. Yellow, orange, and red terracotta can be found in some savanna villages. The more time-efficient way is constructing it from clay, however.

How to Make a Terracotta in Minecraft

Clay is a common block that can be found in swamps, rivers, and shallow waters. Clay can be dug up, although not harvested in blocks, unless players have a Silk Touch enchanted shovel. If the player does not have a Silt Touch enchanted shovel, they can dig up the clay, then place four pieces in a 2x2 grid in the crafting table. This will then create a block of clay. The Clay can then be turned into terracotta by placing it in a furnace with some fuel such as coal. After cooking the clay, the furnace will produce plain terracotta blocks.

Terracotta can be dyed to produce blocks of different colors, similarly to dying armor. Players can place eight terracotta blocks in a crafting table, with the middle square containing the type of dye they wish to use. Only one dye is required to change the colors of all the terracotta blocks.

It is also possible to glaze terracotta to produce one of sixteen unique blocks. The type of glaze will depend on the starting color of the block, and plain terracotta blocks cannot be glazed. Glazing a terracotta block is simple, and it simply needs to be placed in the furnace again after it is dyed.

Players who are looking to really explore the build possibilities in Minecraft and stretch their skills to try and produce truly impressive and huge houses in the game will find that terracotta is an extremely rewarding material to work with. The differing colors, and especially the glaze designs, add an incredible level of interest to any building that they are used in.

Minecraft is available now on Mobile, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
