The popular Minecraft mod Aether has received an update that makes it available in modern versions of Mojang's game. Minecraft players have an impressive number of mods to download, with some mods becoming iconic in their own right.
That's the case with Aether, one of the most impressive mods created for Minecraft. Released in 2011, Aether is a mod that adds a new realm made up of floating islands accessible through a Glowstone portal. In addition to the floating islands, Aether has solid cloud-like blocks and adds new dungeons, items, and mobs such as Aerbunny and the Aerwhale. Aether is one of those mods that turn Minecraft into a completely different game, and it will be playable again thanks to an important update.
Minecraft's New Size Attributed Makes Spiders More Horrifying Than Ever
A Minecraft player uses one of the game's new commands to change spiders, making them even scarier than they were before.
Reddit user ozzAR0th announced that the Aether mod is available for Minecraft versions 1.19.2, 1.19.4, and 1.20.1. Recreated and remastered, Aether can be downloaded for free on CurseForge and Modrinth. According to the Reddit user, who is also part of the development team, the return of Aether has kept the original content to offer a nostalgic experience of this mod that influenced Minecraft's development and marked the childhood of so many players. They also explained that the mod doesn't support Fabric, a popular Minecraft mod loader, but said the team is working on it.
Despite being an extremely popular Minecraft mod, Aether hasn't seen an update since 2021. Now, ozzAR0th explains that Aether will be ported to future releases as modloader support becomes viable for the latest Minecraft versions. With this release, Minecraft players can play Aether and its sequel Aether 2 as two standalone experiences with their own progression system. First available in 2013, Aether 2 is a mod that adds new biomes to Minecraft along with an island generation system that creates new structures. It also adds new blocks, mobs unique to each biome, and dungeons for exploration. With the port of the original Aether released, development of Aether 2 is expected to resume soon.
Aether is a much-loved mod by the Minecraft community, which has welcomed the news of its release for modern versions of the game with great enthusiasm. But interestingly, this isn't the first nostalgic Minecraft announcement to happen this year. Previously, Minecraft players saw the return of Mineplex announced after the server shut down earlier this year. Although not yet available, the return of one of Minecraft's most popular servers is expected in 2024, bringing back classic games and new features to the Minecraft community.
