Minecraft: Bedrock Edition is the console-exclusive version of Minecraft which, as opposed to the Java version on PC, includes a variety of DLC packs available for purchase that expand the mechanics in different ways. The Bedrock version even offers an exclusive in-game store where players can purchase character skins, visual shaders, and explorable adventure maps with Minecoins, the in-game premium currency used in the Minecraft Marketplace.

The newest addition to the Bedrock version's DLC shop, developer Mojang announced a new SpongeBob SquarePants add-on for Minecraft with a short trailer showing off some of the new player skins and locations. In the trailer, Minecraft players run around in the game's overworld and interact with various SpongeBob characters like SpongeBob himself, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, and several others while building various locations from Bikini Bottom.
New Minecraft Pack Gives Fans More SpongeBob
According to the trailer, players will be able to create and place different buildings and locales from SpongeBob SquarePants throughout the overworld, letting them build their very own Bikini Bottom. Along the way, they will be able to do side quests, bosses, and minigames for various characters from the show while creating their perfect SpongeBob paradise by placing different buildings around the map in a method similar to Animal Crossing.
Minecraft has released multiple mash-up packs in the past for the Bedrock Edition of the game, with a gradual rollout of skin and texture packs for properties like Star Wars, Fallout, and even the Switch-exclusive Super Mario mashup pack . Previous DLC packs have deviated from the usual Minecraft mechanics in different ways before, alongside a slew of expansions, both official and ones made by players, which are available for purchase from the in-game store with Minecoins.
Unfortunately for Minecraft players on the Nintendo Switch, the new SpongeBob SquarePants add-on is not yet available, as the trailer's description confirms that the pack is still under development for that platform. There is no known release window for DLC on the Switch version as of now, but it is already available for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Minecraft: Bedrock Edition for 1,510 Minecoins or $8.99.
