Summary
- Minecraft fans proposed a unique daytime Phantom variant resembling giant bats to make the day sky feel more alive.
- Daytime Phantoms could be passive like Cows or Sheep or potentially hostile, following different spawn patterns.
- Mojang may be reluctant to change Phantoms too much, but fan feedback could inspire feasible adjustments.
Some Minecraft players have voiced their enthusiasm for a unique daytime Phantom to be added to the game. As Mojang continues adding new mobs to Minecraft, its devoted players continue creating concepts that could perfectly fit the existing world.
Since Minecraft was released, it has been altered drastically through regular content patches. Patches like 2021's Caves and Cliffs update expanded on what players expect from exploring underground cave networks, while 2024's Tricky Trials added new dungeon-like structures that encourage thoroughly exploring the map. Across the big patches, new mobs like the Armadillo, Breeze, and Warden have been added. Minecraft recently ended the Mob Vote but remains dedicated to adding new creatures like The Creaking. Some fans have expressed interest in a different version of the Phantom to make the day sky feel more alive.
Minecraft and the Nintendo Switch 2 Might Be a Match Made in Heaven
Nintendo has yet to release a list of games that can be expected on the Switch 2, but Minecraft is primed to be a perfect addition.
Reddit user Capable-Village-9880 recently brought a classic Minecraft concept from XndARTSREAL back into the limelight. The fan art concept shows a prehistoric variant of the Phantoms that could patrol the sky in the daytime. These daylight Phantoms resemble giant bats that seemingly flock in packs just like their nighttime counterparts. Other Reddit users springboarded on the concept, suggesting that players could tame these Phantoms or ride them with the assistance of a Saddle. If Mojang maintained the prehistoric theme for them, one gamer also suggested using Minecraft's Sniffer mob to find seeds that could cure the cursed nighttime Phantoms.
One Change to Minecraft Phantoms Could Make a World of Difference
While the nighttime Phantoms show up when players haven't slept or died in over three days and attack periodically while circling above the player, these Phantoms could be passive, like Cows or Sheep. If these Phantoms are hostile like their existing counterparts, it's unclear if they would follow the same spawn pattern or have similar rules applied to players who didn't explore the Overworld during the day. As Chickens, Cows, Sheep, and Pigs have received cold, warm, and hot variants in the latest Snapshot and Preview, Phantoms could see a similar approach one day. Because Phantoms were added to Minecraft after a mob vote, Mojang may be reluctant to change them too much. Although there may never be an official change, mods could easily make daytime or prehistoric Phantoms a reality.
As this is a fan concept, Mojang may never implement a daytime or prehistoric change to the Phantoms. Despite this, enough fan feedback could inspire the adjustment that some gamers hope for. Because Mojang is working on updates to Minecraft's Chickens, Cows, Pigs, and Sheep, a Phantom variant is still a feasible change.
