One dedicated gamer has recreated Minecraft within the legendary FPS Doom. It’s fairly common to see incredible things being recreated in Minecraft, given the immense amount of creativity Mojang’s title inspires in players—and one of those things has been Doom. What’s rare, though, is seeing it happen the other way around.
Players’ creativity in Minecraft knows no limits. Since its debut in the video game industry, Mojang’s massively popular sandbox has served as a canvas for players to explore and give form to their most ambitious building ideas. Over the years, plenty of amazing builds and mods have been showcased by players of Mojang's open-world game on social media, with some even managing to make Doom run in Minecraft. This feat was achieved using no mods at all—which, while still impressive, only allowed Doom to run at 1/500th of its normal speed. However, now someone has managed to go the other way around, bringing Minecraft to id Software’s legendary FPS.
Doom Has Been Ported to a PDF File
One dedicated video game enthusiast expands the list of unusual platforms where Doom has been played by porting it to a PDF file.
Modder Recreates Minecraft in Classic Doom
Taking to Reddit, the user known as how_do_i_type_ shared a short video showcasing a work-in-progress mod to bring Minecraft to classic Doom. At first, it’s really difficult to tell the game is actually Doom, as the visuals all look like Minecraft; however, once the player moves through the scenario, it becomes clear they are in id Software’s FPS, as they face off against one of Doom’s popular demons using Minecraft’s characteristic sword.
The player admitted they were just playing around with the game and aren’t sure if this will ever become a full Doom mod. Moreover, they explained that this Minecraft-themed mod was created in GZDoom, so even if they finish the project, it won’t come to any official port. GZDoom makes things easier when trying to mod Doom, as it adds a bunch of quality-of-life features to it.
Although the mod is still a work in progress, many players praised the modder’s work, with several admitting it took them a while to realize it was actually Doom and not Minecraft. Doom’s enduring appeal has led many to port the game to the most unexpected platforms ever. Some of the wildest things Doom can be played on include other games like The Outer Wilds, an iPod Classic, a parking kiosk, a microwave, among others. As players keep experimenting with both Minecraft and Doom, their creativity and dedication continue to be showcased through these two iconic games.
