Minecraft's Trails and Tales 1.20 update appears to be coming out very soon, and developer Mojang has provided players with a last-minute summary of all the major technical changes and bug fixes to expect in its pre-release build. Much like any other pre-release piece of content, Trails and Tails will be available in beta form for the time being, meaning its full-fledged launch is still some ways out.

Regardless, those who just can't wait to see everything that Minecraft's Trails and Tales update has to offer will soon have the chance to give it a shot via pre-release candidate builds. With Sniffers, Camels, the cherry blossom biome, and a wealth of other features being added to the game, it's easy to see why players would be eagerly anticipating this major new release.

According to Mojang, Minecraft's update 1.20 will soon be available across the board via its first pre-release build, but it's worth pointing out that Java Edition players already have the opportunity to jump into this experimental new version. The pre-release candidate includes all the major new features and content that are coming as part of the Trails and Tales update, but Mojang still needs to fix many big bugs and optimize things in the backend. This means that, though the pre-release build is a fine way to check out new content in-game, players should primarily use it to report bugs and issues to the developers.

In fact, it seems that update 1.20 may be particularly noteworthy from a bug-fixing perspective. Decade-old bugs are being fixed in Minecraft as part of the Trails and Tales update, for example, and it's to be expected that the initial snapshot offers just a portion of the full, polished experience that's coming once 1.20 is fully built out and ready to launch.

While Mojang hasn't clarified how long it expects 1.20 to stick around in its pre-release period, it usually takes a few weeks' worth of work to set up a full-release build candidate. This comes following months of snapshot releases that already previewed the Trails and Tales content in an even more experimental format. Those who'd prefer to avoid all the pre-release hubbub may wish to give Minecraft Legends a shot while they wait.

It's worth pointing out that veteran Minecraft players may need to migrate their game accounts in the shortest order possible. Namely, Mojang has warned players with legacy Minecraft accounts to migrate their old Mojang information to their Microsoft accounts to continue using them. This specifically applies to those still playing the Java build of the game. The ability to do so will no longer be available after mid-September, so it's worth taking the time to do it in the interim.

Minecraft is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and legacy platforms.
