A new experimental snapshot version has been rolled out for Minecraft's Java Edition, and brings a handful of quality-of-life updates to existing game mechanics while overhauling the generation of cloud patterns in the sky. This relatively small change brings quite a noticeable difference to the way Minecraft worlds look, but some fans have even spotted a neat easter egg amid the wide variety of cloud shapes and patterns.
Minecraft has been rolling out new snapshot versions frequently this year, with the annual Minecraft LIVE event revealing a ton of new content set to come to the game throughout 2025. Fans have gotten a glimpse at many of the upcoming features in experimental preview versions that have released for both Java and Bedrock editions, including Minecraft's new happy ghast mob and overhauled leashing mechanics. Players opting in to Minecraft's preview versions on Bedrock Edition have also gotten an early look at the game's upcoming Vibrant Visuals in action, a major graphical and lighting overhaul that's set to come to both Java and Bedrock editions in the future.
Minecraft's New Combat Improvements Should Be The Tip of the Iceberg
Minecraft's latest snapshot has added some changes to projectiles, which could be creating the groundwork for a bigger combat update.
While Vibrant Visuals will be making its own changes to Minecraft's cloud aesthetics, the latest experimental version for Java Edition has overhauled the game's cloud patterns completely. While Minecraft's clouds have long been relatively sparse, simple shapes, the new cloud generation makes them noticeably more densely-packed, and allows them to generate in completely new formations and patterns. Perhaps the most interesting detail about this small change is a cool easter egg in which the iconic creeper face can appear in cloud patterns. It's not clear how rare this is to see, but some fans, such as YoungBiro05, have shared some of their own screenshots showing off this particular cloud formation.
Minecraft's New Cloud Patterns Hide a Familiar Face
Updated cloud patterns aren't the only thing introduced in the latest patch, though. The experimental update also introduces some helpful quality-of-life tweaks, including the ability for players to feed carrots to their horse companions in Minecraft. Horses, mules, and donkeys can all be fed carrots, and allows them to grow, restore health, and make them easier to befriend, just like with other foods.
Additionally, new sound effects have been added for when a lead snaps, and when saddles, carpets, and armor are removed from llamas by players. Several of Minecraft's other recent experimental versions have focused on introducing and improving upcoming features such as the ghastling and happy ghast mobs, which currently remain exclusive to the game's preview versions.
