Minecraft has released an update adding some fresh content to the game based on A Minecraft Movie. Players who enjoyed the film adaptation of Minecraft will be able to enjoy a couple of callbacks to the movie, including one of its most iconic memes and a memorable character.
A Minecraft Movie ended up being a huge success at the box office, with the film even getting a re-release called the Block Party Edition that encouraged audiences to get rowdy and sing along. The original Minecraft game was ready to celebrate its launch, too, with A Minecraft Movie DLC, but this new addition includes two things that movie fans can get for free.
A Minecraft Movie: 10 Things You May Have Missed
The Minecraft Movie included a number of references and details you might have missed in your first viewing.
Following Minecraft's Chase the Skies and Vibrant Visuals release, the game is now getting two additions based on A Minecraft Movie. This includes a Dennis painting and a Lava Chicken music disc. For the unfamiliar, Dennis is a wolf that belongs to Steve in the film. Steve, portrayed by Jack Black, is extremely fond of his wolf friend after taming it, and now a blocky portrait of the pup is available in the game. The Lava Chicken music disc, on the other hand, plays an instrumental take on Steve's Lava Chicken song.
Minecraft Dennis Painting and Lava Chicken Music Disc Availability
Minecraft has two main versions, Java and Bedrock, and the Dennis painting is available now for both versions. However, the Lava Chicken music disc is only available in the Java Edition at the time of publication. Mojang has stated that it will be arriving in Bedrock "soon," but provided no further details on a release date. Players in the Java Edition who want the music disc for themselves will need to seek out and defeat a Chicken Jockey for a chance of it dropping.
A Minecraft Movie experienced a troubled development period, initially being planned as far back as 2014 and finally releasing in 2025. However, a sequel will likely emerge in a much more timely manner. A follow-up is reportedly already in early development, which has been referred to as "Another Minecraft Movie," though it's too soon to say if that will be the final title. Considering the memes that helped to propel the movie largely arose from Jack Black's performance as the iconic Steve, it's likely the film creators will want him to return for the sequel. It remains to be seen, though, if Jack Black, co-star Jason Momoa, or any of the other original cast members will appear.
