Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash was released in February 1989. The second and third novels were released in 1990 and 1991, respectively. Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash movie trilogy was teased back in 2018. An official announcement was made in November 2018 at the Gundam 40th Anniversary press conference.
The first movie of the trilogy was scheduled to be released in July 2020 but had to be delayed because of the pandemic. The release date was moved to May 7, 2021. Unfortunately, it was delayed yet again, and this time it was moved to May 21, 2021. A few days before the movie's premiere, it was announced that its release date had been changed yet again, but the studio did not reveal the new one.
Following multiple delays, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash Part 1 was released on June 11, 2021. The studio teased part 2 after the release of the first movie. Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash Part 1 was directed by Shūkō Murase, and Yasuyuki Mutou wrote the script. Alexandros' Senkou is the main theme song for the movie.
