Once you reach the endgame content of Monster Hunter Wilds, you'll be able to craft much stronger weapons and armor, all of which require the rarer materials found by hunting High-Rank monsters. While it may seem like retreading old ground, High-Rank monsters only give new materials that turn into much better gear than you ever found in Low-Rank.

One bonus effect on weapons that you can craft is the sleep effect, though High-Rank weapons with this element will require new items called Coma Sacs. Coma Sacs are only obtained from a couple of monsters, and even then it will require some targeted attacks; here's how to farm them.

Roars do not mean the end of a hunt, but they mess up the flow of combat, interrupt abilities, and stun hunters in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Where To Get Coma Sacs In Monster Hunter Wilds

Coma Sacs can only be found by hunting two High-Rank monsters:

  • Nerscylla - Oilwell Basin / Iceshard Cliffs / Ruins of Wyveria
  • Gravios - Oilwell Basin / Ruins of Wyveria

While they both have a chance of dropping a Coma Sac, your best bet is to hunt Nerscyllas since they are much easier to take down and also have a slightly higher likelihood of dropping one compared to a Gravios. While Nerscyllas are low-rank monsters, hunting those versions may result in a Sleep Sac instead of a Coma Sac.

You're also guaranteed a Coma Sac for completing the post-game main quest "Investigating the Frenzied Shadow".

How To Get Coma Sacs From Nerscyllas In Monster Hunter Wilds

While a lot of materials are dropped by destroying a specific monster's body part, the Coma Sac isn't and is a possible reward when carving up a Nerscylla after killing it. While this doesn't lower the overall likelihood of getting a Coma Sac since you can't just focus on wounding a specific body part and trying to break it, you're also freed up to simply take down the monster in whatever way you see as best and quickest.

  • Weakness - Fire
  • Resistances - Water / Dragon

Nerscyllas have strong claws and the left one can be broken off to greatly lower the monster's defense against its head. The best place to fight these monsters is directly beneath them, keeping you out of the line of a lot of attacks while also making it easy for you to target their undefended belly. Be sure to bring consumables that restore Poison and Sleep as Nerscyllas do like to use these status ailments.

After defeating your first High-Rank Nerscylla, you can repeatedly do the optional quest, "The Nerscylla's Hunting Grounds" to easily farm them.
