Monster Hunter Stories is an interesting RPG and a great spin-off of the ever-popular Monster Hunter franchise, and it finally got a remake on modern consoles. It follows the story of a Monster Ride, someone who lives alongside monsters rather than hunting them.

While playing the game, players are able to create their perfect team of Monsties to help them out. These Monsties can be from Monster Eggs, Egg Fragments, and a number of other things. Here are some tips for creating an amazing team in the game.

What Makes A Good Team In Monster Hunter Stories?

Monster Hunter Stories

The best way to ensure that you have the best team that you can have is to ensure that there's a good variety. Monsties can have three different Attack Tendencies, which all come with different attack patterns. You will want Monsties that have these various Attack Tendencies and patterns so that you can ensure they are always attacking differently. You also want to be sure that you have Monsties that can help you reach specific areas.

Consider Your Monstie's Attack Tendency

Monster Hunter Stories - Battle Strengths and Weaknesses

An Attack Tendency determines what types of attacks Monsties will try to do first. These attacks will all have strengths and weaknesses (shown in the picture above). Power Attacks overpower Technical Attacks, Technical Attacks overpower Speed Attacks, and Speed Attacks overpower Power Attacks. Here's a breakdown of the Attack Types each Attack Tendency will use.

Pick Monsties That Help You Out

Monster Hunter Stories - Battles Pictures obtain via Capcom

Specific Monsties will have certain Riding Actions that will help you out a ton. For example, Rathalos has the Fly Action, which allows you to fly through the air without worrying about monsters. Rathian has the Nest Search Action, which allows it to detect monster nests (which will have eggs). Then, the Diablos Monstie has the Ground Dive Action, which allows you to dig holes under obstacles to reach new places. You want to consider what you are doing and pick Monsties that can help you out.

Consider Your Monstie's Attributes

Monster Hunter Stories - Attributes

While Attack Tendencies are important for making the best team, so are the Monstie Attributes. Not every Monstie has an Attribute, but those that do will have strengths and weaknesses based on those Attributes. This means that you will want to consider which ones to put up against which monsters. Here's a list of all the Attributes in the game:

  • Dragon
  • Fire
  • Ice
  • Thunder
  • Water

Create A Well-Balanced Team

Monster Hunter Stories - Battle Pictures obtain via Capcom

At the end of the day, you want to consider all these things to create a well-balanced team. You don't want all your Monsties to have the same Attack Tendencies, but you don't want them to have the same Attributes, either. You also want to be sure to pick Monsties with Riding Actions that match what you're doing. This will help you create the best team you can have. If all else fails, you can use a third-party Monstie team builder.
