There are fourteen weapons to choose from when players start Monster Hunter Wilds. It’s nice players won’t be locked into a weapon of their choosing and that there is a practice area at home base. For beginners, a bow is recommended thanks to its ease of use and range.
How to Have the Best Possible Start in Monster Hunter Wilds
Getting the best possible start in Monster Hunter Wilds can make a huge difference to one's playthrough while also saving a fair bit of time.
Players can’t become an expert sniper with the bow unlike the Sniper Elite games but it will provide some safety for them in Monster Hunter Wilds. Each weapon, including the bow, has an upgrade tree and these are the branches players should swing onto as fast as possible. From elemental boosts to raw attack power, it’s time to upgrade.
8 Dosha Fearbringer 1
The Fuzziest Of Bows
- Associated Monster: Doshaguma
- Stamina Thief: Infect Monsters With Exhaust By 20%
The Dosha Fearbringer 1 is a starter bow that players can craft once they face off against the Doshaguma. It will be one of the tougher fights in the early hours as it hits hard and it can take a lot of hits. Equipping this bow has the nice benefit of raising Defense along with Attack Power, which is rare for weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds. The attached skill is called Stamina Thief and it can inflict monsters with exhaust faster if players are using a special type of coating with the bow. Exhausted monsters will move slower, opening themselves up to being trapped or even caught in Monster Hunter Wilds.
7 Dragon Perforator 1
No Dragons Required
- Materials Used: Minerals
- Tetrad Shot: Increases Bowgun Affinity With Ammo
The Dragon Perforator 1 is another starter bow just waiting to be crafted and it doesn’t require any monster parts. Instead, it uses minerals, specifically Machalite Ore and
Earth Crystal. Besides looking for monsters, it’s important to go exploring to mine for materials, literally, like various types of ore, and to pick up bugs and herbs too. Crafting tips aside, this bow comes equipped with the Tetrad Shot which is weird because it’s a boost for bowguns in Monster Hunter Wilds and not the normal bow.
6 Hope Bow 3
From Humble Beginnings
- Materials Used: Minerals
- Ballistics: Extends Range
- Critical Eye: Raises Affinity By 4%
The
Hope Bow is the model players will get if they choose the bow at the start. It has a basic progression from Hope Bow 2 which needs
Iron Ore and Hope Bow 3 which needs
Dragonite Ore and
Machalite Ore in Monster Hunter Wilds. While not as exciting as most monster-crafted bows, this one has two attached skills.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Best Early Game Armor
Hunter monsters and look good while doing it with these armor tips.
Ballistics will extend the range of the arrow’s effectiveness which is one of the best skills bow fans can get in Monster Hunter Wilds. Critical Eye will raise Affinity, which will basically make weapons easier to use. For a bow, this means players could draw arrows faster.
5 Hunter’s Bow 2
Bad To The Bone
- Materials Used: Bones
- Attack Boost: Attack +3
- Focus: Fills Ammo/Charge Rate For Bow By 5%
The Hunter’s Bow 2 is another material-based weapon and this one requires bones for crafting. Players can craft the Hunter’s Bow 1 with Mystery Bones and then upgrade that with
Sturdy Bone and
Monster Fluid to evolve the bow so to speak. It has a basic skill, Attack Boost, which will raise the attack power of arrows. It also has the Focus skill which can increase the charge rate of arrows for the bow and this skill works a bit differently for bowguns.
4 Quematrice Arco 2
Light ‘Em Up
- Associated Monster: Quematrice
- Focus Level 2: Fills Ammo/Charge Rate For Bow By 10%
- Element: Fire
The Quematrice Arco 2 gets things back on track to monsters, specifically the fire-tinged bird, Quematrice. The Quematrice Arco 1 just needs materials from this monster while the Quematrice Arco 2 requires a tail piece, Dragonite Ore, and
Firestone. It has Focus attached like the Hunter’s Bow but it is upgraded to level two. This bow also has the element of fire infused which is good against monsters who appear in the Iceshard Cliffs like Nerscylla.
3 Rey Perkonis 1
Bring The Thunder
- Associated Monster: Rey Dau
- Focus: Fills Ammo/Charge Rate For Bow By 5%
- Special Ammo Boost: Dragon Piercer, Thousand Dragons, and Tracer Bow Attacks Strengthened
- Element: Thunder
The Rey Perkonis 1 is another elemental bow, this one based on lightning. Players need to defeat Rey Dau and harvest parts from it, one of the more formidable wyverns in the game who could rival the greats like Rathalos in the Monster Hunter series. It’s another bow with Focus attached but just at level one.
Single-Player vs Co-Op: Which Should You Choose In Monster Hunter Wilds?
Monster Hunter Wild features a plethora of ways to hunt monsters alone or with friends but is there a best way?
The other skill, Special Ammo Boost, is better as it will increase the power of special bow moves like Dragon Piercer, Thousand Dragons, and Tracer. Tracer attacks, for example, hone in on Wounds using the Focus Mode in Monster Hunter Wilds.
2 Uth Khviluk 1
A High Attack To Douse Flames
- Associated Monster: Uth Duna
- Tetrad Shot Level 2: Increases Bowgun Affinity With Ammo And Raises Attack
- Element: Water
The Uth Khviluk 1 has the strongest attack power in the early stages of the game. Players can craft it after defeating the Uth Duna which is a huge water serpent. It has the Tetrad Shot attached like the Dragon Perforator 1 but at level two which is, again a bit useless for bow users and more important for the bowgun fans out there. The water element is nice to douse any flames erupting from monsters like the aforementioned Quematrice.
1 Wild Power Bow 1
Hope You Like Pink
- Associated Monster: Congalala
- Special Ammo Boost: Dragon Piercer, Thousand Dragons, and Tracer Bow Attacks Strengthened
The Wild Power Bow 1 can be crafted with parts harvested from the Congalala. The Congalala originates from Monster Hunter 2 and it looks somewhere between a hippo and an evil monkey with gas so bad one would think he eats Chipotle for all three meals. The Wild Power Bow 1 may look silly with that pink puff ball attached but it comes equipped with Special Ammo Boost like the Rey Perkonis 1 bow. For players that want to exploit the Wounds system, this bow and the Rey Perkonis 1 are two of the best early ones in the game.
