Summary
- Monster Hunter Wilds has extended its second open beta by 24 hours for players on all platforms.
- This decision follows the lengthy PSN outage on February 8, which lasted nearly an entire day.
- The second open beta test will now conclude on February 17 at 6:59 PM PST / 9:59 PM EST.
Capcom has announced that it will extend the second open beta test for Monster Hunter Wilds by 24 hours on all platforms following the recent network issues faced by PlayStation users. The server problem impacted Monster Hunter Wilds players on the PS5 and the PS4 starting on February 8.
The limited-time open beta tests for Monster Hunter Wilds have been wildly successful. Back in October 2024, the action RPG's first open beta test drew in more than 463,000 concurrent players on Steam alone, which cemented its place as one of 2024's most popular Steam titles months before its official release date. Picking up from where it left off, Monster Hunter Wilds started its second public beta on February 6, 2025. However, this testing period was marred by a PSN outage on February 8, which kept all fans on PS5 and PS4 offline and out of action for almost a whole day. Given this major hiccup, Capcom previously shared contemplating a beta test extension, the details of which it has finally revealed in its latest update.
Monster Hunter Wilds' Second Open Beta Is a Double-Edged Sword
Capcom has officially confirmed a second open beta test for Monster Hunter Wilds in February, but it doesn't come without a massive downside for some.
On the Monster Hunter Wilds account on Twitter, it was confirmed that the final round of the game's second open beta test, which kicks off on February 13 at 7 PM PST / 10 PM EST, has been revised to last a day longer. Instead of concluding on February 16, it will now wrap up on February 17 at 6:59 PM PST / 9:59 PM EST. Even though the PSN issues only hampered those on PlayStation consoles, the announcement confirmed that the extended period will be available to players on all platforms. Furthermore, it stated that players will also be eligible for the beta participation bonuses during this added time.
Monster Hunter Wilds Second Open Beta Revised Dates
- February 13, 2025, 7:00 PM PST/10 PM EST – February 17, 2025, 6:59 PM PST / 9:59 PM EST
Apart from Capcom making changes to the Monster Hunter Wilds open beta to compensate for the PSN outage, others have also shared ways to make up for the lost time. For instance, Bungie devs recently mentioned their plans to offer Destiny 2 players an extra Sundered Doctrine Contest Mode weekend. Additionally, PlayStation itself compensated PS Plus subscribers exclusively with a free five-day extension for their subscription.
Based on the strong response to Monster Hunter Wilds' second open beta test in its initial phase, it would be reasonable to expect similar results in the final phase as well. With the added boost from the return of PlayStation players who were offline during the previous phase, there is a good chance that this beta could see even larger numbers.
