Monster Hunter Wilds brings with it a host of new features and improvements to the series' formula, but its standout addition is without a doubt the Seikret mount. Monster Hunter Wilds' Seikret isn't the first time the mainline series has featured a mount, as both Monster Hunter: World's Iceborne expansion and Monster Hunter Rise allowed players to explore on the back of a small monster or a Palamute, respectively. However, the Seikret is a game-changing mount for the Monster Hunter series — so much so that it may be hard to leave it behind in future installments.
What makes Monster Hunter Wilds' Seikret such a powerhouse of a mount is its versatility, as it is useful for far more than helping players get from one point to another much quicker than they would have been able to on foot. Instead of simply being a mount for travel or even a unique companion for that matter, the Seikret doubles as a way for players to prepare for a hunt on the go, a way for them to easily escape a battle or avoid danger while they use consumables or sharpen their weapon, and even a way for players to remain mobile while attacking monsters.

It Will Be Hard for Monster Hunter to Leave the Seikret Behind
Monster Hunter Wilds' Seikret Comes With a Variety of Benefits
The distinguishing characteristic of Monster Hunter Wilds' Seikret mount in comparison to the series' past mounts is its versatility. The Seikret's most defining quality is its ability to navigate to a hunt automatically, much like Monster Hunter World: Iceborne's Raider Rides did. While players have their Seikret set to Auto Move, they can prepare for a hunt by using consumables or sharpening their weapon, all while they remain on the move toward their objective. However, unlike Raider Rides, which restricted players to pursuing their target, the Seikret allows players to free roam at any point, bridging the gap between Monster Hunter Rise's free-roaming Palamutes and Iceborne's more restrictive Raider Rides.
While exploring on the back of their Seikret, players can even retrieve items from a distance using the Slinger, allowing for more seamless and uninterrupted traversal.
Monster Hunter Wilds' Seikret also comes in handy during battle, as players can summon it to their location by whistling, after which it will automatically pick them up. From there, players can not only escape the hunt if they feel overwhelmed, but, perhaps more importantly, they can use the Seikret to remain mobile while they heal or sharpen their weapon. In past Monster Hunter games, players would be forced to remain stationary while they sharpened their weapons, and using consumables would slow them down. Furthermore, players can attack monsters while mounted in Monster Hunter Wilds, and even use the Seikret as a springboard to mount the monster itself.
Future Monster Hunter Games Will Likely Have Some Form of the Seikret
While it's possible some longtime Monster Hunter fans might view the Seikret as being too overpowered, it still may be difficult for the series to move forward without some iteration of the mount. It wouldn't need to be the Seikret, per se, as Capcom could simply design a different mount that behaves like it, and one that even improves or expands on the areas that the Seikret either succeeds or falls short in. If it turns out that the consensus is that the Seikret does make things too easy, the next Monster Hunter game could balance its mechanics to make it less of a necessity and more of a useful benefit.

Whatever the next Monster Hunter game features in the form of a mount, it's safe to say that not including something akin to the Seikret would feel like a massive leap backwards. Monster Hunter Wilds' Seikret has objectively changed the game for Monster Hunter vets and newcomers alike, giving them an unprecedented advantage in combat and out in the field if they're willing to use it. Hopefully, whatever comes next at least feels like the Seikret, even if it doesn't look like one.
