Monster Hunter Wilds director Yuya Tokuda and art director Kaname Fujioka recently spoke at length about the changes to weapons that will be featured in the upcoming sixth main entry of the Capcom franchise. Monster Hunter Wilds is the successor to 2018’s Monster Hunter: World, and is scheduled to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The main takeaways from the new entry include open-world biomes and the brand-new Seikret mount, with gameplay focusing particularly on tailoring a seamless hunting experience for players.
At the start of the year, Capcom announced the second beta test for Monster Hunter Wilds, which is scheduled to begin in February 2025. The second run will include content from the first test, a new monster hunt, with character carryover, and the team will continue to refine gameplay based on feedback before the game’s full launch on February 28, 2025. Players can also expect to face the Gypceros within the second beta test, and all participants will be given an OBT 2 Bonus Item Pack to carry over into the full game.
Monster Hunter Wilds Explains Cooking System
Monster Hunter Wilds' directors explain their process for making food in the upcoming action RPG look too delicious to be true.
In an interview with IGN, Tokuda and Fujioka discussed the game’s 14 weapon types, acknowledging the arsenal must advance with each game. Wilds will remove the need to replenish resources at the base after each quest, affecting weapons like the Bowguns and Bow, as Tokuda explained, “We balanced it around the idea that things like normal, pierce and spread ammo for Bowguns and coatings for Bows can fire unlimited times while managing your gauge.” The director also explained that during the game’s development, the Great Sword was the first weapon the team focused on when creating animations. “We begin by developing the Great Sword as a prototype, then verify weapons like the Sword and Shield and Heavy Bowgun, applying the knowledge we get from there,” explained Tokuda. Monster Hunter Wilds is one of the most anticipated games to be released in 2025, and these changes to weaponry help to keep the IP fresh for long-term hunters and newcomers.
Monster Hunter Wilds Confirms Changes to Popular Weapons
Monster Hunter fans have already predicted the Great Sword, Long Sword, and Bow will be popular weapons in the upcoming installment, with Dual Blades remaining a classic go-to for veterans. Wilds will also feature the brand-new Focus Strike mechanic, which will serve as a powerful attack specific to each weapon, alongside a wounds system that deploys persistent damage on creatures.
Before the title’s end-of-February launch, Monster Hunter Wilds fans can earn bonus items through a rewarding collaboration. The limited-time Monster Hunter Now x Monster Hunter Wilds event will gift players bonus goodies for completing Collab Event Quests in the mobile game, including a gift code for Wilds in-game items to obtain Mega Potions, Energy Drinks, Dust of Life, and more.
