Rime Crystals are key components in a number of high-level crafting projects in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. They can only be obtained at the very end of the game after players beat the story missions in both the base game and the expansion.

As one would expect, Rime Crystals need to be mined just like every other ore in Monster Hunter World. Here's a quick guide showing you can quickly farm for this crafting material.
MHW Rime Crystal Farming
Rime Crystals only spawn in the Guiding Lands, specifically the icy Tundra region. You'll need to make significant progress in the Guiding Lands as the Tundra will be locked in the beginning. To unlock it, you have to finish Across The Lost Path, an MR24 quest given by the Seeker in Seliana. This quest will have you fighting a Stygian Zinogre. If the quest doesn't appear at your end, make sure to do the Reveal Thyself, Destroyer quest first.
Once you unlock the Tundra, you'll be able to mine the outcrops there for a shot at getting a Rime Crystal. Thankfully, the Tundra region is fairly small, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding the outcrops. If you're in a hurry, then go to the large, open area past the cave and check the walls. There should be a few outcrops there every time you visit.

A giant mining outcrop will occasionally spawn in the Tundra if you mine enough ores in the region, so keep an eye out for it. You can usually spot it in the open outdoor area as well. Also, if you want to increase your odds of getting a Rime Crystal, use the Geologist armor skill by wearing an appropriate armor piece or using a skill decoration in one of your empty armor sockets. If no outcrops spawn, try increasing your Tundra region's level by hunting monsters and collecting tracks/drops.
Rime Crystals are used to create the Stygian Zinogre greaves. You'll need six if you want to craft both Alpha and Beta versions of the armor. Also, five Rime Crystals are needed for the Layered version of the HR Damascus armor set, along with some Pure Dragon Blood and Dragonvein Solidbones.
The Stygian Greaves Alpha+ gives two points of Focus and one point of Elderseal Boost. We highly recommend crafting the Beta version as it trades Elderseal for a large decoration slot. Focus is a great skill to have for Great Swords and Switch Axes as it speeds up their charge time and gauge fill efficiency, respectively.
