Shiny Shoe has laid out the content roadmap for Monster Train 2, loaded with free updates and a major expansion planned for later. The sequel to the hit indie deckbuilder was first announced back in February, at which point PC players also got access to a free Monster Train 2 demo on Steam.

That reveal was followed by an official release date announcement confirming that Monster Train 2 is launching on May 21 for PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S. Alongside that news came a new trailer that introduced the game’s central threat: the Titans, powerful enemies players will need to overcome to stop them from taking control of Heaven. The original Monster Train was a favorite among roguelike fans and pulled in solid reviews, so expectations for the follow-up were high from the start.

Since launch, Monster Train 2 has drawn a strong response, recently passing the milestone of 500,000 players. To mark the moment and keep that momentum going, Shiny Shoe has unveiled a roadmap that outlines what’s coming next. The first update, Lost Arsenal, is set for Q3 2025 and will be free. Monster Train 2 players can expect fresh cards for all clans, new clanless equipment and room cards, and rebalanced legacy cards, all of them designed to add more strategic variety and shake up the gameplay. This marks the beginning of a three-part post-launch update cycle.

Monster Train 2 Content Roadmap

The second Monster Train 2 update is coming in Q4 2025. It doesn’t have a name yet, but it’s expected to introduce new Void-based threats, tougher bosses, fresh gameplay mutators, strategic artifacts, and more cosmetics. Then in Q1 2026 comes the biggest update so far - a mix of free content and a major paid expansion. While details remain under wraps, it’ll feature a new game mode, a brand-new clan, and other significant additions. Each update for the deckbuilding roguelike game will also come with regular bug fixes, balance changes, and localization tweaks based on community feedback.

The newly revealed roadmap shows that Monster Train 2 has plenty lined up, building on an already well-received foundation. At the time of writing, the game is sitting at nearly 96% positive reviews on Steam. Its current concurrent player count is 18,503, noticeably higher than the original game’s all-time peak of 14,073 over more than five years. On top of that, the game has been making crossover moves too. Just this past May, Balatro announced a collaboration with Monster Train 2.
