Monument Valley 3 will be coming to Netflix Games on December 10, 2024. The follow-up to a duo of whimsical puzzle games developed by ustwo has been a long time coming, as the last entry, Monument Valley 2, was released in 2017. Five years ago, ustwo announced that Monument Valley 3 was in development, and from the looks of it, fans will find that their patient wait was worth it.
Originally released for mobile devices, the first two Monument Valley games were ported to PC in 2022, with support for full HD and ultrawide displays. This allowed players to more fully appreciate the beautiful and intricate levels, whose award-winning graphic style was inspired by minimalist design, Japanese prints, and artist M. C. Escher’s optical illusions. Described by designer Ken Wong as being a cross between “exploring a toy shop and reading The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe,” the games offered a Zen-like puzzle experience that quickly gained a dedicated fan base.
At Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 20, ustwo finally revealed that Monument Valley 3 will be making its debut exclusively on Netflix Games on December 10, 2024. The first game starred a princess named Ida making her way through its mind-bending pastel-colored levels; the second told the story of Ro and her daughter. Monument Valley 3 will introduce a new character, Noor.
Monument Valley 1, 2, and 3 Coming to Netflix Games
- Monument Valley 1 - September 19, 2024
- Monument Valley 2 - October 29, 2024
- Monument Valley 3 - December 10, 2024
Like the second game in the series, it’s expected that the third entry will also feature deeper story elements to invite player investment and attachment to their little faceless protagonist. From the press release, it seems that Noor will be on a mission to “find a new source of power before the light of the world fades.” This journey will include guiding villagers, seen in some of the available screenshots, to a new home.
Though this will be the third game in a now classic series, Monument Valley 3 will still be a good place for newcomers to jump in. While this new entry will feature the signature art style and serene environments of previous Monument Valley games, it will also offer more “immersive worldbuilding” with towns and cities, fields and seas, and new art styles inspired by architecture from around the world.
Leading up to the launch of Monument Valley 3, Netflix will also be adding the first two games to its catalogue, on September 19 and October 29, respectively. Netflix subscribers will be able to enjoy all three titles without the intrusion of in-app purchases or ads on iOS and Android devices. Netflix Games can also be accessed on various TV devices — Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Samsung Smart TVs, Nvidia Shield, and Roku, for example — or via Netflix.com in a web browser, but those experiences are still in the beta testing phase.
