One actress is down to be the next Wonder Woman in James Gunn's DCU. However, they haven't thought about what to do once they land the role.

Wonder Woman is one of the most significant superheroes from DC Comics. The Amazonian warrior princess and daughter of Queen Hippolyta is considered a demigoddess. She is part of the DC Trinity alongside the other two popular superheroes – Superman and Batman. Wonder Woman is also one of the core founders of the Justice League. When James Gunn and Peter Safran became the co-CEOs and co-chairmen of the DC Studios, they decided to reboot the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) by introducing younger and new faces to the DC Universe (DCU). For instance, David Corenswet replaces Henry Cavill as the new Superman. Fans are waiting for an official casting for the next Batman and Wonder Woman, who were previously played by Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot, respectively. One actress admitted that they were willing to take the mantle from Gadot.

Moon Knight star May Calamawy appeared at the recent Comic-Con France. At the event, she was asked during the Q&A portion whether she was interested in playing Wonder Woman. She gave a positive response after hearing the question. "If they want me to play Wonder Woman, I'll play Wonder Woman," Calamawy responded (via ComicBookMovie). The Egyptian-Palestinian actress admitted that she hadn't watched Gadot's movies but saw snippets of Wonder Woman 1984. She added that should she land the role, she would want to give it her own take. However, she hasn't really planned on what to do should the character be offered to her. Calamawy said:

I wouldn't want to take anything from [Gadot's] or, like, anyone else's performance. I don't even know, I haven't really thought about what I would do as Wonder Woman.

Several actresses have been cast by fans for the role. Some want Eiza González or Adria Arjona to be the next Wonder Woman. Others prefer to see The Outpost star Jessica Green as the next Princess Diana of Themyscira because she has the height, physique, and beauty to pull off the character. The latter has also expressed interest in playing the role. Gunn previously said that he wasn't particular about the height of the next Wonder Woman after an artwork showed that she is taller than Superman and the latter taller than Batman. Gunn said if he followed it, he would have a hard time finding "an accomplished and talented actress 6'5" or over."

There's no update on whether DCU is already looking into a new Wonder Woman. However, Gunn said that they only hire the best talent. He also confirmed that he doesn't do open casting calls. While fans wait for the next Wonder Woman film, Gunn is working on a live-action prequel TV series, Paradise Lost, which shows Wonder Woman's history and backstory. Gunn said in November that the project is in active development. Gunn also explained that no DC projects are "in production" without being greenlit. They were waiting for a script for Paradise Lost so it could move forward, but he assured fans that the anticipated project was "still in very active development." Since it wasn't greenlit yet, they haven't cast anyone for the project. Paradise Lost is expected to be similar to Game of Thrones drama because it will include political issues, manipulation and power struggles. The series will stream on Max, but there's no official release date yet.
