Hollow Knight composer Christopher Larkin will author the score for Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, publisher 11 Bit Studios has announced. His fresh musical direction is said to mark a tonal shift that complements Moonlighter 2's brighter, livelier setting compared to the first game.
First announced in December 2024, Moonlighter 2 builds on its 2018 predecessor's blend of dungeon-crawling and shopkeeping, this time by placing protagonist Will in a remote village of Tresna. Alongside upgraded visuals and expanded mechanics, the sequel promises town-building mechanics and numerous build options for tinkerers to explore. Moonlighter 2 is also set to emphasize its predecessor's roguelike elements more heavily, aiming to deliver a highly replayable experience.

Christopher Larkin Confirmed as Moonlighter 2 Composer
In the lead-up to its October 2025 launch, publisher 11 Bit Studios shared another bit of insight into the game, revealing that Hollow Knight composer Christopher Larkin scored Moonlighter 2's original soundtrack. On this occasion, the award-winning artist will trade Hollow Knight's somber tones for a more hybrid genre approach that leans into whimsy. "Moonlighter 2’s soundtrack is adventurous - just like Will’s journey," the Australian composer said in a prepared statement. "From folk to electronic soundscapes to industrial metal, the music mirrors the unfamiliar, ever-shifting world he explores."
Spanish developer Digital Sun Games worked closely with Larkin—who first confirmed their collaboration in December 2024—to ensure the music complemented Moonlighter 2's vivid world. The end result of their joint efforts is "an experience that feels cohesive, rich, and deeply immersive," according to DSG Creative Co-Director Victor Ribera. Moonlighter 2 will mark Larkin's eight video game project, after Pac-Man 256, Expand, Hacknet, Outfolded, Hollow Knight, TOHU, and the upcoming Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Moonlighter 2 Launching in Early Access on October 23
While originally planned for a Q3 2025 release, Moonlighter 2 was recently rescheduled for October 23. That's the date when the action RPG will launch in early access on PC. Moonlighter 2 will also be a day-one PC Game Pass release, available as part of Microsoft's Game Preview program. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are in development as well, but not expected to launch during the early access period, which—according to the Moonlighter 2 Steam page FAQ—will last "as long as the game needs it."

During early access, Digital Sun plans to expand the roguelike ARPG with new environments, enemies, bosses, NPCs, loot, events, and customization options. Planned additions also include shop system upgrades, new quests, story content, and various UI and quality-of-life improvements, many of them shaped by Moonlighter 2 player feedback.
