Mortal Kombat 1 has revealed Ghostface’s fatality in a recent trailer ahead of the character’s release. Since Warner Bros. Acquired Mortal Kombat, the franchise has showcased many film IPs owned by the media giant. Starting with the soft reboot of Mortal Kombat in 2011, players have seen the likes of Homelander, Leatherface, the Xenomorph, and several other DLC characters in recent games, with Mortal Kombat 1 promising to introduce even more.
On September 24, the Khaos Reigns DLC will introduce three additional characters to Mortal Kombat 1: Sektor, Cyrax, and Noob Saibot. Another three will be released at a later date, including Ghostface, the T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian. NetherRealm Studios has released a few trailers teasing the characters but only recently showed off Ghostface in action.
Mortal Kombat 1 Reveals Sektor Fatality and New Story Details
Mortal Kombat 1 shows off more of its revamped Sektor in a new trailer, highlighting the Lin Kuei assassin's Fatality and role in the upcoming DLC.
On September 18, NetherRealm Studios released a trailer for the upcoming launch of the new Mortal Kombat 1 DLC, giving players their first look at Ghostface's fatality near the end. The finisher showcases the character's horror roots, including his reflection in the opponent's eyes as he approaches for the kill. Ghostface first appeared in the 1996 horror classic Scream, which many still believe holds up as one of the best horror movies of all time. The franchise has seen several sequels, each with its own twists and different characters taking up the cloak and mask. The most recent movie came out in 2023 and was met with largely positive reviews.
Mortal Kombat 1 Shows off Ghostface's Slasher Movie Roots with New Fatality
The Khaos Reigns DLC also brings back animalities in Mortal Kombat 1, a feature that has been absent from the series since its 1995 debut in Mortal Kombat 3. Animalities allow characters to transform into beasts to completely eviscerate their opponents as a special sort of fatality. This feature will be free to all players who own Mortal Kombat 1 when the DLC launches later in September.
Mortal Kombat has showcased numerous Warner Bros. Movie IPs by including guest characters such as the Terminator, Freddy Kruger from Nightmare on Elm Street, The Joker, and Spawn in the past. The fighting game franchise has had a few movies of its own following the original 1995 Mortal Kombat movie, with a sequel following in 1997. Warner Bros. Also gave audiences a fresh take on the Mortal Kombat film universe with a new release in 2021. The company is expected to release its sequel to the Mortal Kombat movie in October 2025.
