Summary

  • Ghostface from Scream is joining Mortal Kombat 1 as a DLC character, with a release date of November 19 for early access players.
  • November 26 is the day that all players will have the chance to buy the Ghostface DLC.

The infamous Ghostface killer from Scream is coming to Mortal Kombat 1, and now players can mark their calendars for the latest DLC character’s arrival. The second wave of guest Mortal Kombat 1 DLC characters was first revealed during San Diego Comic-Con 2024 back in July, with the first half being released alongside the Khaos Reigns story expansion in late September. There, classic Mortal Kombat fighters Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot made their debuts in the new universe of Mortal Kombat 1, playing a key role in the DLC’s new storyline.

There will also be a trio of special guest fighters in Mortal Kombat 1’s Kombat Pack 2, following the appearances of Oni-Man, Homelander, and Peacemaker from the first round of DLC. The first will be the dreaded Ghostface from the Scream franchise, who is joining a long list of equally notorious horror movie villains that have crossed over into Mortal Kombat over the years. Shortly before the launch of Khaos Reigns, fans got to see one of Ghostface’s Mortal Kombat 1 Fatalities, which paid homage to the killer’s silver-screen origins by featuring a second Ghostface appear to brutalize their unlucky opponent.

Now Mortal Kombat 1 fans know when Ghostface will be added as the game’s latest DLC character thanks to a brief teaser trailer. It begins with the voice of Roger L. Jackson asking the iconic question “Do you like scary movies?” Before showing Ghostface sneaking up behind a hapless Johnny Cage with murderous intent. From there, flashes of the various alternate masks players will be able to equip on Ghostface appear, followed by two release dates: November 19 for players who have already purchased the Kombat Pack 2 DLC and November 26 for everyone else.

When is Ghostface Coming to Mortal Kombat 1?

  • November 19, 2024 (Early Access)
  • November 26, 2025

Ghostface appearing as a Mortal Kombat 1 guest character was a rumor long before Kombat Pack 2 was officially revealed, and the masked murderer of Woodsboro has been terrorizing plenty of video games in recent years. In 2019, Ghostface was added to Dead by Daylight, complete with a new backstory for the latest incarnation of the legacy villain. Ghostface also appeared as a playable operator in Season 6 of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone, and most recently was added to Hunt: Showdown 1896 with a chilling new look.

There is still much left to be revealed about Mortal Kombat 1’s upcoming incarnation of Ghostface, namely the identity of the killer (or killers) behind the mask and the rest of their moveset. It will be especially interesting to see Ghostface’s Mortal Kombat 1 Animality, as the character isn’t known. More answers to the mystery of Ghostface will likely surface as the DLC character’s now-confirmed release date draws closer.
