Summary

  • Quitalities may be added to Mortal Kombat 1 in a forthcoming update.
  • First appearing in Mortal Kombat X, these unique finishing moves only trigger during online play when an opponent exits a match before it is finished.

A new leak implies that Quitalities may be added in an upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 update, boosting the game's substantial list of gore-filled finishing movies. While Fatalities reign supreme in the world of Mortal Kombat 1, developer NetherRealm has developed a wide range of funny and bizarre finishing moves over the years, with Quitalities being one of the most unique ways to end a match.

Mortal Kombat 1 acts as both a continuation of the series and a semi-reboot, introducing new storylines, characters, and plot points to the legendary 2D fighting game franchise. Released in 2023, Mortal Kombat 1 has seen a number of updates and tweaks, as well as the addition of numerous famous characters from pop culture to its roster, though the game's finishing moves remain one of its most beloved inclusions. Just like the long list of previous Mortal Kombat games, Mortal Kombat 1 features dozens of complex finishing moves to taunt opponents with. However, up until now, the game has been missing Quitalities, special finishing moves that may be added soon.

Why Mortal Kombat 1 Fans Shouldn't Give Up Hope For Kombat Pack 3

While a rumor at the end of 2024 suggested that Mortal Kombat 1’s Kombat Pack 3 was canceled, new DLC characters may still be on the way.

Reddit user InfiniteNightZ recently shared a video showing off what appears to be Hara-Kiri Fatalities in Mortal Kombat 1. These finishing moves were first introduced in 2004's Mortal Kombat: Deception and have the defeated player cause their own death, literally adding insult to injury. The new video shows the entire roster, minus Liu Kang and Conan the Barbarian, using the animations, which range from horrific to comical. The most interesting part of this new find is that DLC characters also have their own animations, indicating these new finishers will be added in an upcoming update rather than simply being left as cut content.

Mortal Kombat 1 Leak Reveals New Finishing Moves

Hara-Kiri animations, if added to the game, will likely serve as Quitalities, something that was first introduced in Mortal Kombat X. These finishing moves only trigger during online play when an opponent exits a match before it is finished. More of these Hara-Kiri animations were uncovered by Mortal Kombat 1 leaker Interloko and shared on Twitter. While still unconfirmed, the plethora of animations, including ones for Mortal Kombat 1's DLC fighters, makes for compelling evidence for their inclusion in an upcoming update, though Warner Bros. Nor NetherRealm have made an official statement.

Quitalities highlight Mortal Kombat's more fantastical side, with the series not shying away from the goofier aspects of its lore, fighting mechanics, and gore over the decades. Alongside Fatalities and Quitalities are Babalities, which transform opponents into infant versions of their character, as well as Friendships, which see the two fighters join together in a violence-less finishing move. Each one of Mortal Kombat 1's fighters features a wide range of finishing moves and combos to master, with recent additions like Conan and Ghostface offering quite a lot of variety to the overall experience.
