After plenty of teases, NetherRealm Studios releases the official gameplay trailer for Takeda, the final character of Mortal Kombat 1's first Kombat Pass. Nearly a year after it was released, Mortal Kombat 1 has finally reached the end of its Kombat Pass, bringing six additional characters to the main roster through a mix of returning characters like Ermac with guest characters ranging from Homelander, to Omni-Man, and John Cena's take on Peacemaker.

For many fans, however, the final roster addition was the most tantalizing, bringing back one of the more popular new fighters originally featured in Mortal Kombat X. Takeda Takahashi, formerly the son of the blind swordsman Kenshi, was introduced in MKX as a member of Scorpion's Shirai Ryu and of Cassie Cage's unit during the game's story. For many, what set Takeda apart was his mix of technology with ninja-style abilities, utilizing tools like a light sword and a bladed whip to quickly pressure opponents. NetherRealm has been teasing the arrival of Takeda for the past few weeks, giving small glimpses at the character, but in advance of EVO, the debut gameplay has finally arrived.

Takeda's official trailer shows the character going head-to-head with General Shao in a match that confirms the return of his bladed whips, which should make many Mortal Kombat X fans very happy. Takeda is also shown dodging attacks by using his whip to grapple to the top of the screen for a brief moment, along with explosive ninja stars which can be set and have a short delay before they explode, seemingly taking the place of the light sword move from MKX. As with most Mortal Kombat 1 character trailers, the gameplay ends with one of Takeda's fatalities, a brutal ender that has his bladed whips essentially shred General Shao into small little bits.

Takeda Release Date for Mortal Kombat 1

  • July 23

Fans won't have to wait too long to get their hands on both Takeda and Mortal Kombat 1's final Kameo character in Ferra. Initially, Ferra was supposed to launch well ahead of Takeda, but NetherRealm confirmed a delay to the Kameo update, wanting to instead make sure the character was ready for the game. Ultimately, NetherRealm announced that both characters would be added together on July 23.

With Takeda's arrival, Kombat Pack 1 comes to an end, but NetherRealm Studios and Ed Boon have made sure that fans know it isn't the final peice of content. Recently, Ed Boon teased the future of Mortal Kombat 1, indicating that the studio intends to continue supporting the popular fighting game "far beyond" this final character and highlighted some changes coming alongside the Takeda update. This includes buffs to characters like Nitara and Li Mei, Kameo adjustments, and more which should be available to check out once the patch notes arrive.
