Summary

  • The newest Mortal Kombat 1 patch largely focuses on the DLC character Takeda Takahashi.
  • Some characters have also been tweaked, including Frost, Ferra, and Tremor.
  • The Khaos Reigns expansion will be released on September 24, bringing a new story campaign and more DLC fighters.

NetherRealm has just released a new Mortal Kombat 1 update patch that is largely centered around the DLC character Takeda Takahashi. The techno-whip-wielding Shirai Ryu ninja was the latest post-launch character to be added to Mortal Kombat 1 back in July, and he is far from the last. At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con event, NetherRealm announced the Khaos Reigns expansion, which will introduce a whole new story campaign set after the events of the base game and add three additional DLC fighters: Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot. Three more guest fighters will then come as part of Kombat Pack 2, including Ghostface, T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian.

As fans wait for Khaos Reigns to launch on September 24, NetherRealm continues to fine-tune Mortal Kombat 1’s gameplay through a series of update patches that have been rapidly implemented since the base game was first released last October. Most of the time, these patches come alongside DLC fighters, but they also address general issues players have with character balancing, glitches, and other technical issues.

One of Mortal Kombat 1's longest-running characters is still unaccounted for in the new timeline, raising questions about their future.

One of these patches was released earlier this week, and while it isn’t as massive as some past Mortal Kombat 1 updates, it still introduces some useful quality-of-life changes. Most of these changes are for Takeda, who is seeing some adjustments to his Swift Stride and Shooting/Falling Star attacks. Mortal Kombat 1 Kameos Frost, Ferra, and Tremor are also getting a few tweaks, with Frost getting some changes to her Snow Flakes Cancel, Ferra having her Health slightly nerfed, and Tremor’s Rolling Rock, Transmute Ground Pound, and Transmute Lava Burst attacks being altered.

As mentioned before, even more content is coming to Mortal Kombat 1 in the upcoming Khaos Reigns DLC, including a new story detailing Titan Havik’s attempt to spread anarchy across the Mortal Kombat multiverse and Liu Kang’s battle to stop him. Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has also teased new Kameo fighters that could be added in Kombat Pack 2 like Invincible, Chucky the Killer Doll, and even Blanche, the old lady last seen in Mortal Kombat 10’s Outworld Marketplace stage.

The future seems bright for Mortal Kombat 1 fans thanks to Khaos Reigns, and NetherRealm is still listening to player feedback as it continues to adjust its latest fighting game through downloadable updates. Mortal Kombat 1 was already a smash hit when it launched last fall, and through its many update patches and DLC expansions, it continues to evolve into one of the most polished entries in the long-running series.
