Mortal Kombat 3 Movie Is Already In The Works

Although Mortal Kombat 2 has been pushed back from its original October 24 release to May 15, 2026, that has not stopped Warner Bros. And New Line from expressing confidence in the series. During a New York Comic Con 2025 panel, Slater shared some good news with attendees. Slater said that both Warner Bros. And New Line were so convinced that Mortal Kombat 2 would have a "giant audience" waiting for its theatrical premiere that it had already started making plans to develop Mortal Kombat 3. Slater also confirmed that WB and New Line wanted him back to write the script for Mortal Kombat 3. As of this writing, no further information about Mortal Kombat 3 has been revealed by Slater or Warner Bros.

However, the news of Mortal Kombat 3's announcement came at a bittersweet time for the Mortal Kombat franchise. Longtime Mortal Kombat audio director Dan Forden, known as the voice behind the series' "Toasty!" Catchphrase, left NetherRealm Studios on October 3 after 37 combined years with NetherRealm and its predecessor, Midway Games. Forden appeared to have left NetherRealm amicably and stated that he would use his free time to pursue other personal interests.
