During the September 12 Nintendo Direct broadcast, the release dates for Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection were revealed to be October 30 for the digital version, with physical copies available starting December 12. Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will include multiple titles from the Mortal Kombat franchise.
Initially revealed during the June 2025 State of Play, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will include the original saga of Mortal Kombat arcade fighting games, such as the WaveNet edition of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Additionally, two Mortal Kombat spin-offs from the PlayStation era, Mortal Kombat Anthologies: Sub-Zero and Mortal Kombat: Special Forces, will be included in the collection. Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will also offer fans some never-before-seen pictures and videos that detail the legacy of NetherRealm Studios' storied fighting game franchise, along with a documentary featuring the series' original creators.
Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection Confirms Another New Game Addition
Digital Eclipse and Atari reveal that another fan-favorite entry will be included in Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection as part of the launch lineup.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Will Have Two Release Dates
- Digital: October 30
- Physical: December 12
Although initial rumors suggested a late September launch for Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, fans will not have to wait much longer than that. The September 12 Nintendo Direct confirmed that the launch of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection would be split across two dates. Digital copies will be available starting Thursday, October 30, and physical versions will be available on Friday, December 12. The Switch and Switch 2 versions of the compilation will be available in both physical and digital formats. Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will have rollback netcode for online matches on all platforms. Additionally, Mortal Kombat players with the Switch 2 version of the game can use GameShare to play locally with other Nintendo consoles, including players who do not have a copy of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection installed on their system.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will feature 11 games in total for players to check out. However, multiple versions of games like the original Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat 2 from systems like the Genesis and the Game Boy will be available from the start. Pre-orders for the physical editions of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection are now available via Atari's website, starting at $49.99 for all systems aside from the Switch 2, which starts at $59.99. The Standard and Deluxe editions of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection are still available for pre-orders, though it remains to be seen how much time fans will have before inventories are sold out.
Digital pre-orders on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and Steam begin on Monday, September 15. Given that the Mortal Kombat 2 film has been delayed to May 14, 2026, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection should offer plenty of content to tide longtime fans over.
