As one of the controversial Soulslike games of 2020, Mortal Shell has a few impressive boss fights—and a bunch of boring ones. And Grisha, the wolverine-looking cave monster, is definitely not on the S-tier bosses’ list. But don’t fall for its foolish look.
Grisha can be a daunting beast, especially for beginner Mortal Shell players. Out of his four primary attacks, one penetrates parry and the other three drain one-third of players' HP. So, to stop the boss' shenanigans, here's a guide on how to beat Grisha.
How to Beat Grishas in Mortal Shell
To defeat a Grisha, parry to its left or right and attack from behind. Block its close-range attacks with the Harden ability and dodge when it leaps. Keep circling and hitting its back until the boss fight is over.
Do not engage in face-to-face melee with a Grisha, as its claws penetrate the Shell. Instead, go around in a circle and dodge behind it when possible.
Tips to beat Grishas faster:
- Attack a Grisha before its roaring animation ends.
Every time a Shell gets close to Grishas, they roar and do a quick animation. That’s the opportunity to strike them at least twice and drain their HP before the fight even starts.
- Grab the Mechanical Spike in the first Grisha’s cave.
The chest in the first Grisha boss’s cave contains an upgrade for the Hallowed Sword. Grab it mid-battle and use it against the beast.
- Don’t get in front of it when its claws are stuck.
Grishas hit the Shell while pulling out their claws from the ground. Don’t fall for their struggle when they’re trapped. Get behind them and attack from a distance.
The key to killing Grishas is memorizing their move set. Their deadliest strike is the leap that ends in grabbing the Shell and biting its head. But all its moves are dodgeable through Hardening or parrying with the Tarnished Seal.
Where to Find Hidden Grishas
Technically, there are four Grishas in Mortal Shell. But two of them are of the same type. So, when it comes to different species of Grishas, there are only three.
The first Grisha, the old and hairy one, is near the Fallgrim Tower. The second one, Enslaved Grisha, is in the Crypt of Martyrs. And the last two are hidden. Summon them by paying Thesus Glimpses and activating the fog.
What Is the Prize for Defeating Grishas?
Beating each Grisha rewards players with 750 Tar and 6 Glimpses. However, beating the first one (the boss Grisha) is more lucrative. Not only will it drop Tar and Glimpses, but it will also give Mechanical Spike, which adds a new move to the Hallowed Sword.
Defeating all three types of Grishas in Mortal Shell grants the Different Kinds of Grisha achievement. (There are four Grishas in the game, but since the last two have the same type, killing three is enough to get the trophy.)
Mortal Shell is available now on PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox.
