The movepool of Pokémon includes a wide variety of skills, from the ability to control water to the power to heal through moonlight. However, one of the most mysterious sources of power in the Pokémon universe remains the concept of aura. In the real world, aura acts as a term for the atmospheres that surround living things; while this also applies to the Pokémon world, it is also something that select users can control.

In the games, some Pokémon such as Mienshao and the Aura Pokémon itself, Lucario, are able to use Aura Sphere. However, only a select few Pokémon in the anime are shown to use the exact Aura Sphere move. Regardless, there remain several Pokémon that are extremely in tune with the atmosphere of their environment, or can use their own auras to affect their opportunities.

10 Milotic’s Aura Can Soothe Troubled Hearts

The Tender Pokémon Usually Works With Water-type Attacks

First found in select areas of the Hoenn region, Feebas is a Pokémon that is often treated with a similar sort of disdain as Magikarp, thanks to its low battle statistics and shabby appearance. However, if one takes a chance on this Water-type, and either max out its Beauty or trade it with a Prism Scale, they will watch as Feebas evolves into a being where its inner beauty shines through. Milotic, the Tender Pokémon, is known as one of the most beautiful Pokémon to ever exist. It is capable of learning moves not just from the Water-type category, but even the Fairy-type and Dragon-type categories.

Milotic has been known to use its aura to soothe those dealing with negative feelings, even able to stop fighting occurring around it. However, aside from its own personal aura, it cannot use aura-based attacks. Despite this, Milotic can indeed use its aura to distract its opponents before it unleashes an attack. Many powerful Trainers such as Cynthia, Juan and Wallace have been known to use a Milotic in their battles.

9 Medicham Can See the Auras of Its Foes

Despite Being a Fighting-type, Medicham Cannot Use Aura Sphere

pokemon-medicham-anime-feature

In the mountains of Hoenn, the Fighting/Psychic-type Meditite constantly trains in order to become a better fighter. As part of its training, it will only eat one berry a day. Upon evolving, and due to its strict training, Medicham is able to see the aura of its opponents, as stated in the Pokédex entry for Pokémon Platinum. This training, which also includes yoga and meditation, has allowed Medicham to gain a sixth sense, which it uses to predict its foes' next movements.

Aura Sphere is a Fighting-type move, and it has been used in-game by Fighting-type Pokémon such as Mienshao. However, even though Medicham is a Fighting/Psychic-type, it is unable to learn Aura Sphere, either by leveling up or via a Technical Machine. As such, its aura-related powers are simply used as a means of foresight. Despite this, Medicham has worked alongside many well-known Trainers in the anime, including the Frontier Brain Greta.

8 Morpeko’s Signature Move Is Aura Wheel

Aura Wheel Changes Type Alongside Morpeko

Morpeko In The Pokemon Anime

Since Generation III, the Pokémon games have introduced Pikachu-like Electric-types that are not part of the immediate Pikachu family. After the debut of Plusle and Minun, other "Pikachu clones" have since been introduced, such as Emolga and Pawmi. One of the more recent Pikachu-like Electric-types to debut is Morpeko, an adorable Electric/Dark-type Pokémon with the unique Hunger Switch Ability. At the end of each turn in battle, Morpeko will switch between its usual Full Belly Mode and its more ferocious Hangry Mode.

Morpeko is able to use its constantly changing personal aura to change the type of its signature move, Aura Wheel. In its Full Belly Mode, Aura Wheel acts as an Electric-type move. However, in its Hangry Mode, Aura Wheel is a Dark-type move. In the anime as well as the games, Morpeko is famous for being the partner Pokémon of Marnie, who often uses the Two-Sided Pokémon in her toughest battles.

The Normal-type Eevee, first introduced in Generation I, remains one of the most popular Pokémon ever. In fact, Eevee is often known as a "secondary mascot" nowadays, often appearing alongside Pikachu for major events. One element that makes Eevee so popular is the fact that it can evolve into several different evolutions, known by fans as "Eeveelutions". The most recent Eeveelution remains Sylveon, who instantly became a fan favorite during the premiere of Generation VI.

Sylveon is usually known as a gentle and kind Pokémon that is very loving towards its Trainer, even using its feelers as appendages so that it may walk arm-in-arm with its friend. During battle or in the wild, Sylveon will use its ribbon-like feelers to send out a soothing aura that will calm down its foes or prey. Then, in a shockingly ferocious twist, the Intertwining Pokémon will attack. Sylveon is a very popular Pokémon in the anime, seen alongside Trainers such as Valerie or even Serena, and it will often use its soothing aura to deceive its foes.

The Ralts family is made up of four Pokémon who are incredibly sensitive to the auras and thus, the feelings of those around them. In fact, Ralts is so sensitive that it will rarely appear before human beings, though it has been known to appear before those with good hearts. If one befriends and trains a male Ralts into a Kirlia and then uses an extremely rare Dawn Stone, then the Emotion Pokémon will then evolve into Gallade, the Blade Pokémon. This Psychic/Fighting-type Pokémon is very chivalrous, and will fight with everything it has got in order to protect its loved ones.

As it has a strong sense of justice, Gallade will use its powers to sense the surrounding atmosphere in order to sense the wishes of those in need. It is also able to learn the move Aura Sphere via a Technical Machine, though it has only been seen in the games, not the anime. Despite this, Gallade still proves to be a very thoughtful Pokémon, and very in-tune with the auras surrounding its allies and foes alike. Examples of well-known Gallade in the anime include the ones owned by the Pokémon Coordinator Zoey, the Trainer Rinto, and the Gallade that helped look after its home in Alamos Town.

5 Togekiss Is Very in Tune With the World’s Atmosphere

A Togekiss Will Never Appear Where There Is Strife

In the original Pokémon animated series, Ash and his friends found themselves looking after a newborn Togepi, who became a part of Misty's team. Like other Togepi, the Fairy-type baby Pokémon (classified as a Normal-type until Generation VI) will only evolve into Togetic if it forges a strong bond with its Trainer. However, if a Trainer wishes to fully evolve their Fairy/Flying-type Pokémon, then they must find a Shiny Stone.

Though Misty would later release her Togetic into the wild, other well-known Trainers have been seen with a Togekiss of their own, such as Ash's former traveling partner Dawn. Despite its typing, Togekiss is able to use the move Aura Sphere, an attack it has been shown using in the anime as well as the games. The Jubilee Pokémon will never appear where there is strife, though it has been known to bestow blessings upon places filled with compassion and warmth. However, according to the Pokédex, sightings of Togekiss have become much rarer.

Before Gallade was introduced in Generation IV, Gardevoir was the only evolution of Kirlia. The Embrace Pokémon, once purely a Psychic-type, later became a Psychic/Fairy-type in Generation VI, following the introduction of the Fairy-type. This Pokémon is famous for being fiercely loyal to its loved ones, so much so that it will even sacrifice its own life to save its Trainer. Thanks to its psychic abilities, Gardevoir can keep a close eye on its surroundings as a means of guarding its Trainer.

Gardevoir even has the ability to use all of its powers to create a small black hole, a skill that it only uses when necessary. The Psychic/Fairy-type is also able to use Aura Sphere in its own way, during which it will use the energy waves it has generated to create an offensive force of power. Upon Mega Evolving into Mega Gardevoir, it is said that the Embrace Pokémon's heart is now completely open, and as such, its abilities are at maximum power. Several Trainers have been seen with Gardevoir of their own, with Diantha and Kimia being examples of Trainers who can Mega Evolve their Pokémon.

3 Ash’s Greninja Is Extremely Unique Compared To Other Greninja

Aside From the Bond Phenomenon, Greninja Can Also Harness Aura

Ash-Greninja In The Pokemon Anime

Ash has been known for working alongside many extremely powerful Pokémon, yet his Greninja remains one of his most famous allies. As a Froakie, the frog-like Pokémon spent its time alone, unable to connect with people or other Pokémon. Upon meeting Ash, someone who also loved training and battling, Froakie was able to finally make a true friend. Their bond was so strong that, upon evolving into Greninja some time later, Greninja was able to transform into a new form via the Bond Phenomenon, later dubbed "Ash-Greninja."

At this point in time, Ash's Greninja is the only known Pokémon capable of transforming via the Bond Phenomenon. Their paths would sadly later diverge, as Ash would leave Kalos for new adventures while Greninja lived in the wild, hoping to guard its beloved home. However, Greninja would act as a mentor for Ash's Lucario in later episodes, as it was the only known Pokémon in its species to harness the power of aura. These abilities have made Ash's Greninja extraordinary even compared to other Greninja, which are well-known for being very powerful Pokémon.

Team Rocket, led by the infamous Giovanni, have always sought out ways to rule the world. However, there was one experiment that forever haunted their organization's legacy, and nearly destroyed the Pokémon universe. Using the DNA of the Mythical Pokémon Mew, Giovanni's scientists created an enhanced clone of Mew called "Mewtwo." However, disgusted at how its creators simply viewed it as a tool, Mewtwo escaped and vowed to destroy humanity and any Pokémon who acted as their allies.

Mewtwo is often regarded as the most powerful Pokémon to ever exist, even among other Legendary Pokémon. In fact, it is able to Mega Evolve into two different forms, those being Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y, the former Mega Evolution giving the Psychic-type the secondary Fighting-type. Even without this extra type, Mewtwo is able to harness the power of Aura Sphere, a move it is shown using in the first movie. It also has the Ability Pressure, in which it uses an intimidating aura to frighten its foes.

Aura Sphere Was Once Lucario’s Signature Move

Pokémon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew was the piece of media that introduced the concept of aura-based powers, a category that has since been expanded on. The film also acted as the animated debut for Lucario, the now-famous Aura Pokémon first introduced in Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl. As a Riolu, the Fighting-type Pokémon is incredibly sensitive to the atmospheres surrounding it, yet after evolving, it is able to actually harness them. Lucario was the Pokémon who created the Aura Sphere move, and introduced the Pokémon world and its fans to the concept of aura.

The first known Lucario to work alongside a human was Sir Aaron, a young man who could harness auras as an offensive tool; the Aura Guardian thus acted as a mentor to his Pokémon. Following the bittersweet tale of Sir Aaron's Lucario, the Fighting/Steel-type Pokémon has since appeared often in the media. Lucario has appeared alongside Korrina, Ash, and even Riley, who is thought to be a descendant of Sir Aaron. Lucario also has two iconic Mega Evolutions, Mega Lucario and Mega Lucario Z, the latter of which recently debuted in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
