Chrono Life is the ultimate virtual reality game that promises its players complete freedom. The executives will never interfere with whatever the player does until they do it through cheating or other unfair means. The condition holds even when Ji-u successfully enforces a beginner wooden stick to the max despite impossible odds. Having been betrayed by a female player, he vows to play the game as he desires and goes on to have epic adventures.

+99 Wooden Stick is a great comedic manhwa that mostly surrounds the actions of the unpredictable protagonist. It may seem simple at first, but the story develops as he moves on to encounter strange quests and divine beings. He only uses the wooden stick throughout the series to defeat undefeatable monsters and gain notable titles. All he has to do is swing and hit with made-up moves, and the stick does the rest. In one case, he had successfully destroyed the entire game world in the early chapters to take revenge on the female player who wouldn't die. Readers are recommended to go into it blind for a pleasant surprise.

However, he encounters a teen during a dungeon smuggling saga who tells him to join the Warrior High School. He takes up the offer to become an established hunter once again.

Regarding combat, Jaryong Yoo is not overpowered from the get-go. His character is also down to the ground, with clear faults and perceptions. Hence, readers will find him very relatable as he overcomes his problems the hard way. He is proficient in martial arts and fighting with a wooden staff, which he uses as a spear. The action scenes may not be iconic, but his journey and character development make up for the majority of the manhwa.

The Greatest Estate Developer is one of the most popularly recommended manhwa titles, and now with another quirk – Lloyd's idea of combat. Generally, he doesn't get involved in fights because his guard is the original protagonist of the story, Javier Asrahan. However, he does use an iron shovel when he is forced to fight. With the help of Javier's teaching and accomplishments in infrastructure, he has gained a few skills and magical abilities. He also ends up with a mana heart, the basis for most knights in the new world. Hence, he can fight stronger beings by using his shovel like a sword and pouring mana into it.

Reaper of the Drifting Moon is an excellent manhwa set in the murim world with a captivating story. Partly focused on a revenge story, it has a great pace with some good characters. World-building takes effect as the plot progresses, and the protagonist has a unique fighting style. He uses daggers and mana strings to render enemies immobile and land the finishing blows.

The Novel's Extra

Modern Weaponry – Revolver, Pistol & Sniper

The Novel's Extra manhwa cover with protagonist Hajin Kim
  • MyAnimeList Score: 7.77
  • Published: Jun 30, 2022
  • Authors: Ji, Gapsong (Story), Carrot Studio (Art)

Hajin Kim finds himself transmigrated as an extra into the world of his written novel. He is tasked with the ultimate job of seeing through to the novel's ending. Although he was aware of the plot, like the back of his hand, the story started deviating from its original plotline. He realizes that the system he is bound to may be more complex after all.

The Novel's Extra follows the dungeon/monster trope in the modern world. However, modern weapons do not initially work against monsters. Despite the challenges, Hajin picks up modern weaponry as his primary weapon, which he uses with the help of magic. He also gains complementary skills to help while using revolvers, pistols, and snipers. While everybody sticks to the usual sword, staff, daggers, and spears, he breaks through the trials uniquely.

Transcension Academy

Copy Of Weapons From Mythology – Lance Of Longinus & Gungnir

Transcension Academy Manhwa Cover with Seojun Kim and his mentor
  • MyAnimeList Score: 7.16
  • Published: Jul 7, 2022
  • Authors: Dupachitapa (Story), Kkyujeanne (Art)

In a modern world where dungeons and monsters have become the norm, hunter academies were established to help train potential talents. Seojun Kim is an orphan with the lofty dream of becoming a mighty warrior to help save humanity. However, an unfortunate accident at a construction site costs him his entire savings. His leg has also lost some functionality, and everything seems hopeless. That's when he sees an ad for the Transcendent Academy that changes his fate forever.

Transcension Academy has a unique storyline with good action scenes and underground societies. Although Seojun prefers using the spear, his weapon itself is beyond ordinary. With the help of the Transcendent Academy, he can buy copies of mythological weapons from different points of history. His first weapon, the Lance of Longinus, is the very spear that pierced the side of the crucified Jesus. He also goes on to buy a second weapon, Gungnir, a homing-type spear used by Odin to rip apart the first giant YMIR and create the nine worlds. Moreover, he can buy other necessities like the Kibisis, a space-time pouch belonging to the Goddess Hera, who gives it to Perseus to put in Medusa's head.

The Player Who Can't Level Up

Egos – Weapons With Conscience, Intelligence, & Personality

The Player Who Can't Level Up manhwa main protagonist Kim Kigyu
  • MyAnimeList Score: 7.27
  • Published: Feb 28, 2021
  • Authors: GaVinGe (Story), Park, Jeongjae (Art)

Kim Kigyu's long-time wish comes true when he gets an invitation to become a player in a world with dungeons, towers, and monsters. He gets elated when he discovers he has a unique ability but soon discovers it is up to him to learn it. Without information on the skill, he gets further disheartened when he cannot get past level 1. As a result, he ends up working as a tower guide. One day, he eventually discovers that his unique ability is to link with 'Egos' – an intelligence-type weapon.

The Player Who Can't Level Up may follow the popular tropes, but the story gets better as it progresses. The author has managed to integrate multiple themes with well-written characters. The storytelling is also well-balanced when the serious parts are serious and the funny parts are funny. Although 'Egos' are not a rare concept, the manhwa manages to portray them by tying them to the overall mystery of the tower/dungeons. Kim has two primary 'Ego' weapons, the remnants of an angel and a devil, with a thoroughly fleshed-out background story.
