A new first-person shooter called Mouse just got its first teaser trailer and looks like a potentially impressive combination of Cuphead and the old Doom games. Like Cuphead this could be an indie game that's a massive success.

Cuphead bridged new and old by utilizing the classic rubber hose style of animation in a modern video game run-and-gun classic. The game even continues to amaze years after its release with the fantastic Cuphead DLC from 2022. The influence of the game is starting to show with the new game Mouse which will also be using a similar rubber hose-style animation aesthetic, but will be switching things up with a completely different genre.

The official teaser trailer showing off very early gameplay footage of Mouse recently hit the official YouTube channel of the game's developer, Fumi Games. It's clear that Fumi is taking a lot of inspiration from both Cuphead as well as the rubber hose animation classics that inspired Cuphead like the oldest Looney Tunes shorts or Steamboat Willy. It's also mixing those things with gameplay that looks heavily inspired by the Doom games; the original '90s ones, not the cutesy new Mighty Doom. The main character runs around almost puzzle-like maps avoiding waves of firearm-wielding mouse mobsters focusing as much on agility and movement as shooting.

It's clear from this brief teaser trailer that Mouse is still very much in the early stages of development, but that doesn't mean there's not a lot of promise being shown off here. A game that manages to combine all of the influences of amazing run-and-guns like Cuphead and Doom while refining things and creating its own unique voice on top of it would almost certainly be something many gamers would tune in for. Fumi Games is still very new and doesn't actually have its debut title out yet. Big publishers will likely be eyeing this title, though, considering the teaser trailer has racked up more than 300 thousand views on IGN over the last few days.

Fumi is also working on another title called Galaxi Taxi, which clearly takes even more inspiration from Cuphead. The game is also a side-scrolling shooter, but in this case, Galaxi Taxi appears to be more akin to the Japanese-style shoot 'em ups than Cuphead, which was more akin to the classic run-and-gun Contra. Neither Mouse or Galaxi Taxi has a set release date as of right now, so it's unknown which game will wind up being Fumi's debut title. Whatever it is, though, it does appear that this up-and-coming Polish video game studio has a lot of promise.

Mouse is in development.
