MultiVersus is getting some fresh cosmetic items along with a few remixed maps to celebrate Lunar New Year and ring in the year of the rabbit. Some of the MultiVersus community's most requested changes are coming soon.
Initially arriving in early access in July 2022, MultiVersus came out swinging amid positive reception of the game's mechanics and the brand recognition of beloved franchises under the Warner Brothers umbrella. Content patches were originally released at a fast clip for the game, although since the November release of Marvin the Martian and the MultiVersus season 2 update, the pace of new characters and maps has evened out a fair amount. December brought with it the FestiVersus patch, which included a bevy of holiday-themed cosmetics, the limited-time snowball fight mode, and the Game of Thrones Throne Room map. The update, as well as the smaller patches earlier in December, also introduced a number of balance changes, bug fixes, and the highly-requested spectator mode.
January 16, 2023, was the launch date for the first patch of the new year for MultiVersus. Among the continued fine-tuning of character balance and bug fixes are two remodels for maps that the MultiVersus community has been asking for since the game's release. The Scooby's Mansion map is getting a bit of a home makeover, as the roof has literally been blown off of the building. A new version of the Treefort map has also arrived, scaled down to a single platform for 2v2 matches. These map changes strike at some of the longest-standing gripes that players have had of the game. The newest update also includes a Lunar New Year event, with 14 days of login rewards and unique cosmetic profile icons, banners, ringouts, and character skins.
While the new update is appreciated by the MultiVersus fan base, many are growing anxious for new characters to be added to the game. With numerous leaks of potential characters and a truly limitless number of possible characters that could be added thanks to the number of IPs owned by Warner Brothers, many fans are clamoring for their favorites to make the cut. 2023 should be a huge year for MultiVersus if there is any truth to the various character leaks that have come so far.
For the MultiVersus diehard fans, as well as those that picked up the game but eventually bounced off of it, this new update is a welcome bolstering of content for a live-service game doing its best to keep thriving. It will be interesting to see what comes next.
Multiversus is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
