Summary
- Uraraka excelled by using her Quirk to save others in the exams, showing her determination.
- Kendo proved herself by ranking high and performing well in all exams despite limited screen time.
- Tokoyami and Tetsutetsu showcased creative Quirk use and durability to pass all their exams successfully.
Before someone can call themselves a fully-fledged hero in the world of My Hero Academia, they first need to undertake a handful of grueling exams to prove they have what it takes. While some of these are little more than written exams where a character must answer a series of tricky questions to achieve a top score, most of them are a lot more exciting and task the students with proving their heroism on the battlefield by participating in various physical exercises and missions.
My Hero Academia: 8 Heroes With Villainous Quirks
While these My Hero Academia characters strive to be protectors of society, their personal Quirks seem much more suited for villainy.
While there are plenty of reckless heroes who have actually failed these exams, many others have proven their reliability and effectiveness by passing each exam with flying colors. These tests are ultimately what determines whether someone has the right to become a protector of hero society, and considering the My Hero Academia characters below managed to ace every single one of their exams, it was clear to the teachers of the U.A. That they were determined to become heroes for themselves.
8 Ochaco Uraraka
Uraraka Made Good Use Of Her Quirk To Rescue Others In Need
- First Appearance: Episode 4
- Quirk: Zero Gravity
Uraraka may have started out as an incredibly naive and timid aspiring hero, but it doesn't take long for her to become much more confident in her abilities, allowing her to breeze through the exams without much issue. While she did admittedly have a little trouble controlling her Zero Gravity Quirk in the Apprehension Test, what really allowed Uraraka to stand out in future exams was how willing she was to use this unique ability to help others.
In the Provisional License Exam, for example, she was able to rescue several civilians by freeing them from fallen debris by floating them up in the air. She also made good use of her Quirk when facing off against Thirteen, who did a good job of pushing both Uraraka and Yuga to their absolute limits. Needless to say, Uraraka is a student who was determined to get the best results possible back when class 1-A still had time to take on the exams before the villains got involved.
7 Itsuka Kendo
Kendo Showed A Lot Of Promise As A Hero Through The Exams
- First Appearance: Episode 15
- Quirk: Big Fist
Fans might remember Kendo as the loudmouthed student who could enlarge her hands thanks to the use of her Quirk. Because she is actually a member of Class 1-B, Kendo doesn't get all that much screen time during the series, though it's still made very clear that she's not just all brawn and no brain, as she also performs extremely well in all the exams.
My Hero Academia: Class 1-A's Hero Suits, Ranked
Class 1-A features many beloved characters from the world of MHA, but which student boasts the best hero attire?
In the U.A. Entrance exam, for example, despite fierce competition, Kendo managed to finish in fifth place, proving that she is capable not only of dealing with any villains who stand in her way but also of rescuing civilians. On the surface, it may seem like all Kendo wants to do is crush everything in sight, but she is secretly a lot smarter than she lets on.
6 Fumikage Tokoyami
Employed His Absurdly Powerful Quirk To Score High Marks
- First Appearance: Episode 5
- Quirk: Dark Shadow
Tokoyami's Quirk, which allows him to control a giant shadow of darkness, can seem incredibly strong on the surface. However, the truth is that it can be very difficult to actually control, especially after the sun goes down. This resulted in Tokoyami having to focus intensely when the exams came around, so as not to embarrass himself when it was time for him to showcase his abilities. Thankfully, he did not disappoint.
Tokoyami was able to find highly creative ways to utilize his shadow in battle, especially when facing Ectoplasm, whose close-combat fighting style initially made it difficult for Tokoyami to bridge the gap. Thanks to his impressive results, Tokoyami would be granted the opportunity to be taken under the wing of the Pro-Hero Hawks, allowing him to refine his Quirk even further, and become much stronger in the process.
5 Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu
Used His Steel Body To Showcase His Durability To The Teachers
- First Appearance: Episode 15
- Quirk: Real Steel
Tetsutetsu is another character who, unfortunately, only gets a brief amount of screen time in the series, which is a shame considering he's an extremely fun student to follow. As someone who possesses the ability to turn his body into steel in a matter of seconds, Tetsutetsu was able to navigate the physical exams pretty easily, considering his durability is on a whole other level compared to many of his fellow students.
Throughout the exams, he would also establish a friendly rivalry with Kirisihima, which makes sense considering their Quirks are almost identical, prompting the two of them to compete to see whose ability was superior. Tetsutetsu highlighted in the exams that he's not someone to be taken lightly, especially considering he was able to pass all of them with flying colors.
4 Yuga Aoyama
Despite Struggling To Use His Quirk, Aoyama Still Performed When He Needed To
- First Appearance: Episode 4
- Quirk: Navel Lazer
For reasons that are explained much later in the story, Aoyama had a lot of trouble adjusting to his Quirk for the first few arcs. As a result of this, it seemed as though he was inevitably going to fall behind the other members of Class 1-A when it came to the exams. However, after putting in enough hard work and effort, alongside a little bit of luck, he was able to make it through in one piece.
My Hero Academia: 13 Characters With The Saddest Backstories
When it comes to sad and tragic backstories in My Hero Academia, these characters in the anime series have had it the worst.
While he clearly prepared a lot for the written exams to ensure he wouldn't miss a beat, Aoyama was also able to make good use of his Quirk when he really needed to. That being said, it was a good thing that he was partnered up with Uraraka in the First Term Final Exam, considering he would have stood no chance against Thirteen on his own.
3 Momo Yaoyorozu
Momo Overcame Her Self-Doubt To Become A Top Student
- First Appearance: Episode 6
- Quirk: Creation
The ability to create almost anything out of thin air is one that many heroes and villains would love to get their hands on, but this doesn't inherently make Momo powerful just because she is the host of the Quirk itself. Because the Creation Quirk drains so much of her stamina if she relies on it too heavily, the exams proved to be a real test of Momo's endurance, and though she passed every single one, there were definitely moments where she began to doubt herself.
A prime example of this was in the First Term Final Exam, where she and Todoroki were tasked with competing against Aizawa, their teacher. Despite her initial struggle to figure out how she could contribute to the battle, all it took was a little bit of encouragement from her partner to get Momo back on her feet, allowing her to realize the true extent and underlying power of her Quirk, and how this could be used to assist others in combat.
2 Tenya Ida
Teachers Would Expect Nothing Less From The Perky Class President
- First Appearance: Episode 5
- Quirk: Engine
While most students in Class 1-A aren't afraid to goof around or doze off every now and then in class, the same can't be said for the class president, Tenya Ida. Ida is someone who takes his education very seriously, and as a result, it was more or less a given that he was going to pass the exams without much trouble. Not only is Ida dangerously smart, but he also possesses a Quirk that allows him to move at lightning-fast speeds, giving him an instant advantage over many of the opponents he would be forced to face throughout the school's trials.
Ida was able to take out villains with ease by outmaneuvering them and striking them when they least expected it. His rapid pace also allowed him to scoop up innocent civilians at a moment's notice. Clearly, the teachers of UA took note of this, as Ida performed extremely well in all the exams, allowing him to continue his journey to eventually become a Pro Hero, just like his older brother.
1 Izuku Midoriya
Midoriya Put Everything On The Line To Prove His Worth As A Hero
- First Appearance: Episode 1
- Quirk: One For All
Midoriya was at an extreme disadvantage compared to the other students when he took the exams at U.A.. Considering he had only acquired his Quirk fairly recently rather than being born with it, it meant he only had a short while to gain the confidence to utilize the overwhelming power of One For All, which is strong enough to destroy the host's entire body if they aren't careful. As a result of this, Midoriya didn't exactly have the easiest ride when it came to passing the exams, though his determination to become a true hero pushed him to take on every single one of them regardless.
In the Entrance Exam, while Midoriya didn't score a single point for taking down any villains, he was also the star of the show when it came to rescues, emphasizing very early on in the story that he is willing to put his own life on the line to save others. As the story goes on, and as Midoriya began to master his Quirk, he was able to fare much better in the exams than he did initially, becoming one of U.A.'s most promising students in barely any time at all.
