Summary

  • Re-Destro and Skeptic's unresolved storylines left fans disappointed, as these villains were completely forgotten in the final arcs.
  • The undignified deaths of characters like Gigantomachia and Kurogiri left many readers feeling dissatisfied with their fates.
  • Characters like Inasa Yoarashi and Edgeshot had untapped potential and unanswered questions about their futures in the hero society.

My Hero Academia has finally reached its long-awaited conclusion after 10 years of serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine. This was definitely an important event for the entire industry, as many fans believe this ending was satisfying and that author Kohei Horikoshi did a solid job at tying up every remaining plot thread.

My Hero Academia: 8 Characters Who Got The Best Endings

MHA ended with chapter 430, and several character arcs were concluded. However, some characters had better endings than others.

But this finale was also quite divisive, as other longtime readers heavily criticized it for omitting much-needed resolutions for various key figures, and their fates were ultimately left vague. My Hero Academia has a huge cast of characters and, while most of them got a proper ending before the final chapter, the following 10 needed formal conclusions to their personal stories more than anyone else.

10 Re-Destro

One Of The Biggest Villains Was Completely Omitted From The Last Few Arcs

Re-Destro fights Edgeshot in the Paranormal Liberation War.
  • First Appearance: Chapter 218 (Manga) Episode 108 (Anime)

Almost every main antagonist of a previous arc got a proper resolution before or during the final chapter. But there was a really intimidating villain who was completely absent from the final arcs of the series, and that was Rikiya Yotsubashi, better known as Re-Destro.

Re-Destro is quite the fascinating character, due to his ambiguous morals, his intriguing family ties and his unique quirk, which all led to him having a memorable introduction during the Meta Liberation Army Arc. Nevertheless, he was last seen in Chapter 296, when he was apprehended alongside other members of his organization. After that, he was never seen or mentioned ever again in the story, which is extremely disappointing for such a powerful villain.

9 Skeptic

Another Ignored Member Of The Meta Liberation Army

Skeptic is arrested by Hound Dog, Shindo and Ms. Joke.
  • First Appearance: Chapter 218 (Manga) Episode 108 (Anime)

One of Re-Destro’s biggest contributions to the plot was introducing his faithful sidekick, Skeptic, to the League of Villains and turning him into one of the nine lieutenants of the Paranormal Liberation Front. Because of this development, Skeptic had an even bigger presence in the story than his leader, since he used his computer knowledge to take over satellites and other means of communication during the Final War Arc.

But, after a brief but memorable encounter with La Brava, Skeptic was found and captured by Hound Dog, and was never seen again. So, what happened to him and the Meta Liberation Army’s message after his imprisonment? It feels like Kohei Horikoshi never planned on giving this group of characters satisfying conclusions, as most of them were quickly forgotten.

8 Giran

An Underrated Character Who Was Forgotten By Most People

Giran's final appearance in the anime, when he decides to stay away from the Paranormal Liberation Front.
  • First Appearance: Chapter 57 (Manga) Episode 31 (Anime)

When it comes to antagonists in My Hero Academia, people usually forget about Giran, the criminal broker who recruited new members for the League of Villains during the earlier arcs of the story. He was undoubtedly quite important to this group of villains, and he had a close relationship with most of them.

This was perfectly exemplified later, in the Meta Liberation Army Arc, since this arc's conflict was kicked off when Re-Destro kidnapped Giran, and the League of Villains wanted to rescue him. He later claimed that he wanted nothing to do with the newly founded Paranormal Liberation Front, but it still is very strange that a character that played such a big part during a popular arc was eventually erased from the story and forgotten by most fans.

7 Oboro Shirakumo / Kurogiri

A Heartbreaking Storyline With An Underwhelming Conclusion

Bakugo and Deku kill Kurogiri as they try to reach All For One.
  • First Appearance: Chapter 11 (Manga) Episode 8 (Anime)

The story of Oboro Shirakumo, an old friend of Shota Aizawa and Present Mic who died in an accident and was later forcibly turned into a Nomu named Kurogiri by All For One, is quite tragic and heartbreaking. This was definitely one of the most emotional plot lines of the final arcs of the series, yet its resolution left a lot to be desired.

Kurogiri’s final appearance in the story was during the climactic confrontation against All For One, when he was killed by Bakugo after the tyrannical villain used him as a human shield. His horrible death generated little-to-no reaction from the other characters and, aside from a very small panel in the final chapter, it was barely acknowledged by Aizawa and Present Mic. This was quite a letdown for what was such an interesting storyline.

6 Gigantomachia

One Of The Most Powerful Villains Was Unceremoniously Disposed Of

All For One kills Gigantomachia after his betrayal.
  • First Appearance: Chapter 57 (Manga) Episode 31 (Anime)

Similarly to Kurogiri, Gigantomachia was yet another powerful villain who played a key role within the League of Villains, as he was All For One’s most impressive creation and most faithful servant, who basically worked as his personal bodyguard. Due to his immense strength and multiple Quirks, Gigantomachia was one of the biggest threats to the heroes during both the Paranormal Liberation War and the Final War.

But, at one point during the Final War Arc, the heroes successfully managed to manipulate Gigantomachia into betraying his own master, which led to All For One mercilessly murdering him in the process. And that was sadly it, as nothing else was revealed about this hulking beast after his quick - yet unfair - death, which is surprising for a character as unique and dangerous as him.

5 Ordinary Woman

She Could Have Been Part Of The Heteromorph Storyline

Ordinary Woman and Kota try to comfort Deku after his emotional breakdown.
  • First Appearance: Chapter 310 (Manga) Episode 133 (Anime)

As her official name obviously implies, Ordinary Woman is a relatively minor character that isn’t that important to the overall story. However, she did play an essential part of a relatively unexplored aspect of the series: The unfair discrimination of Heteromorphs that were born with Mutant Type quirks.

Ordinary Woman was introduced as an innocent civilian who Deku saved after she was discriminated against because of her appearance, but she was last seen saying farewell to the U.A. Students in chapter 342 and was never seen again. Since Shoji and Koda later took part in an intense conflict regarding the topic of Heteromorphs during the Final War Arc, it would’ve been quite satisfying to see how the changes they made in their society benefitted Ordinary Woman as well.

4 Inasa Yoarashi

A Powerful Young Hero With Untapped Potential

Inasa admires Todoroki while activating his Quirk.
  • First Appearance: Chapter 102 (Manga) Episode 52 (Anime)

The Provisional Hero License Exam Arc introduced a lot of students from other Hero Schools, of which Inasa Yoarashi from Shiketsu High School was definitely the most memorable one. Thanks to his powerful Whirlwind Quirk, bombastic personality, unique costume and endearing rivalry with Shoto Todoroki, he quickly became a fan-favorite.

After his introduction, Inasa made another crucial appearance during the Final War Arc, when he and many of his classmates were of great importance in the fight against All For One and Gigantomachia. But he sadly was not seen or mentioned ever again at the end, which is quite tragic because he had the potential to become one of the greatest heroes of his generation. Did he graduate from his school? Did he become a beloved Pro Hero? These questions were sadly left unanswered.

3 Edgeshot

It Was Never Confirmed If He Returned To Normal

Edgeshot trying to fix Bakugo's heart and Edgeshot's final form
  • First Appearance: Chapter 84 (Manga) Episode 47 (Anime)

The Ninja Hero: Edgeshot was essential during the Final War Arc, since he practically saved Katsuki Bakugo’s life by using his incredible Foldabody Quirk to its full extent and heled the wounds from within the young hero’s body. Because of how his Quirk works, this heroic action took an incredible toll on his own body, and Edgeshot was last seen with a small size and an adorable worm-like appearance.

My Hero Academia: 19 Saddest Deaths In The Series, Ranked

Out of all the characters who have died in My Hero Academia, these deaths are arguably the saddest in the series.

When Bakugo asked him if his body was ever going to grow back to its normal size again, the Ninja Hero gave a vague response, and he was never shown again, not even after the time skip that takes place in the final chapter. As a result of this strange omission, it was never officially confirmed if Edgeshot ever recovered his body and/or if he ever resumed his career as a hero.

2 Lady Nagant

Did She Ever Manage To Forgive Hero Society?

Lady Nagant helps the heroes and tries to shoot Shigaraki.
  • First Appearance: Chapter 297 (Manga) Episode 128 (Anime)

Kaina Tsutsumi, better known as Lady Nagant, is a tragic byproduct of Japan’s flawed Hero Society. She was used and corrupted by the Hero Public Safety Commission, and was later manipulated by All For One in order to try and stop Izuku Midoriya. However - and despite the damage she endured from a forced self-detonation - Lady Nagant did end up helping the heroes during the Final Warc.

She was last seen in chapter 426, where she states to Hawks that she's still afraid of the outside world, so she’s going to remain imprisoned for a while. However, it was never confirmed if Lady Nagant managed to overcome her trauma and witness the new & improved society that Izuku, Hawks and other people managed to create. And this is a real shame, because she was a very tragic character, so it would’ve been quite fulfilling to see society appreciating her as the heroine she truly was.

1 Mr. Compress

His Shocking Revelation Went Nowhere

Mr. Compress reveals his real identity and showcases his final performance.
  • First Appearance: Chapter 80 (Manga) Episode 44 (Anime)

Due to his eccentric magician's outfit and practical Quirk, Mr. Compress was one of the most fascinating members of the original League Of Villains. And, just like his comrades, he did eventually end up having a big & important moment during the Paranormal Liberation War, when it was revealed that he was the descendant of the Peerless Thief, one of the most infamous villains in the history of Japan.

This was an unexpected revelation and Mr. Compress used it to his advantage in order to greatly help the League of Villains, but he was immediately captured and was barely seen again following that. He was seen having a brief conversation with Geten during the Final War and had a small cameo during the final chapter, but nothing else was revealed about his great-grandfather, his past or his motivations, which was rather disappointing. It isn’t even clear if he was ever released from prison or not.
