This list contrains spoilers for My Hero Academia
Most of the Quirks seen in My Hero Academia are already incredibly powerful, but some individuals have been able to push these abilities to their full potential by experiencing what is known as a Quirk Awakening. This will usually happen later in a person's life after they have already become accustomed to using their Quirk ability in battle, but it also requires an individual to be in an extremely intense and dire situation so that they can bring out the overwhelming power that has been lying dormant all along.
My Hero Academia: The 48 Strongest Hero Quirks, Ranked
My Hero Academia's Heroes have some pretty unique and interesting quirks. These are the strongest of them all.
Though there have been a few Quirk Awakenings seen throughout the series with characters like Shigaraki and Toga, not everyone was lucky enough to reach this level of power. With the My Hero Academia manga officially over, there have been many online discussions concerning which characters really ought to have acquired a Quirk Awakening at some point the story, and also what these abilities and techniques would actually look like in practice, and that's exactly what this list will be digging deeper into today.
Aizawa
Aizawa Would Probably Have Had A Much Easier Time Controlling His Supportive Quirk In Battle
- Quirk: Erasure
- Description: Disables The Quirk Of An Enemy
At first, the ability to disable a villain from using their own Quirk might sound like a tool that most heroes would be desperate to get their hands on, but as Aizawa has proven numerous times, it's an incredibly risky Quirk to actually use in a battle. In order for it to work, Aizawa needs to maintain eye contact with his target for as long as possible to ensure they can't attack him or his allies with their Quirk ability. Not only does this deal severe damage to his eyes, considering he is unable to blink, but it also makes it a little tricky for him to actually fight for himself, since he always needs to be laser-focused on using his own Quirk.
If Aizawa was given a chance to Awaken his true power, however, it's highly likely the Quirk would be not only more manageable, but also a lot more powerful. For example, rather than just shutting down one villain's Quirk, it could potentially disable the Quirks of an entire group of villains all at once. Perhaps Aizawa could even glance at a villain to leave them defenseless, without having to look at them for the entire battle, which would make life a whole lot easier for the lazy teacher of Class 1-A.
Kaminari
Without The Side Effects, Electrification Would Be An Immensely Powerful Quirk Ability
- Quirk: Electrification
- Description: Shoot Out Bolts Of Electricity
Despite Kaminari's Electrification Quirk being strong enough to take down an entire swarm of villains with one shot, the problem is that it comes with some pretty severe drawbacks that don't make it all that reliable. The biggest side effect is how using too much electricity will literally zap Kaminari's own brain, causing him to become a bumbling idiot for a short while, essentially removing him from a fight entirely. While he was eventually able to acquire some Support Gear to help him overcome this problem, it definitely would have been nice to see this perky class 1A student receive an Awakening to bolster his potential as a fighter.
While being able to shoot bigger and more powerful blasts of energy would definitely make Kaminari more dangerous, removing the biggest downside of the Quirk would also make him pretty much unstoppable on the battlefield, since he could throw out a myriad of electrifying attacks without needing to worry about putting himself in too much danger.
Re-Destro
The Influential Leader Of The PLA Could Let His Built-Up Stress Fester Onto His Victims
- Quirk: Stress
- Description: Transform Into A Giant Strong Behemoth When Feeling Stressed
Stress is one of those Quirks that acts as both a blessing and occurs for its user. Because Re-Destro tries to present himself as a reasonable businessman and leader, turning into a giant ferocious mutant when becoming overburdened with stressful emotions isn't exactly a great look for the lead figure of the Paranormal Liberation Army. On the other hand though, it does make him a true force to be reckoned with in battle, as was clearly shown when he pushed Shigaraki to his limits during their epic clash.
8 Most Versatile Quirks In My Hero Academia, Ranked
Quirks vary in how useful they are in My Hero Academia, and these Quirks are known for being invaluable in nearly any situation.
However, what could have made this fight even more exciting is if Re-Destro were able to tap into his Awakening, raising the stakes and intensity of the battle to a whole new level. Considering the villain can already transform into a physical powerhouse with his original Quirk, it makes sense that his Awakening would allow him to spread these negative emotions onto other people, causing them to flare up and doubt their own abilities while in combat, giving Re-Destro the perfect opportunity to strike.
Muscular
Muscular Could Use His Muscle Fiber Extensions In Some Pretty Interesting Ways
- Quirk: Muscle Augmentation
- Description: Cover The User's Body With Muscle Fibers, Granting Them Durability And Strength
Muscular isn't exactly a very complex villain who has any grand schemes of taking over the world or forcing his own ideology on society. Instead, he is simply a ruthless killer who enjoys nothing more than obliterating any heroes who stand in his way with the strength gifted to him from his Muscle Augmentation work. When Muscular activates the ability for the first time against Deku, it's clear to see how the fibers creep up his body before eventually turning him into a gigantic behemoth, but it feels like this would have presented the perfect opportunity to use these fibers as part of an Awakening later in the story.
In a similar way to Deku's Blackwhip, Muscular could potentially use the fibers to grab his opponents from afar. Considering he's more or less useless from long range, this would immediately cover up Muscular's biggest weakness, making him a much more versatile and dangerous villain as a result. On the other hand, his Quirk Awakening could even do the exact opposite, turning him into a leaner and skinnier version of himself whilst still possessing a significant strength boost to take down his opponents with.
Tokoyami
Tokoyami Could Embrace His Inner Darkness, Becoming One With His Shadow
- Quirk: Dark Shadow
- Description: Summon A Shadow Entity That Can Be Controlled
Tokoyami's Quirk enables the mysterious student to summon a giant dark being which can deal a significant amount of damage to his opponents, especially after the sun has gone down. Because the shadowy entity still has to be controlled by Tokoyami, it does mean that it can sometimes get a little reckless and act on its own. On the other hand, the shadow is also extremely ineffective in the daytime, which ends up making it a little unreliable and tricky to use correctly given everything that needs to be kept in mind.
A potential Awakening could change the Quirk from being an external controllable being to something that actually fuses with the the user themselves. Therefore, if Tokoyami could actually merge himself with the darkness, and resist being weakened by the sun, it would grant him much more control over the beast's movements, while also making him a lot faster and more dangerous at the same time.
Mirio Togata
Mirio Would Be The Ultimate Support Hero If He Could Permeate Others
- Quirk: Permeation
- Description: User Becomes Intangible For A Few Seconds
Mirio's Quirk, which allows him to make his body completely intangible, is an ability that took him many years to fully master. By phasing through the floor, Mirio is then able to shoot himself back up at exhilarating speeds to catch the enemy off guard when they least expect it. However, this does make the ability pretty situational, since it's ultimately quite selfish in the way that it works, but this is something an Awakening could help to fix.
My Hero Academia: 8 Quirks With The Biggest Drawbacks, Ranked
Though these My Hero Academia Quirks are pretty powerful, using them too often comes with some pretty nasty side effects.
Rather than just granting permeation to Mirio, awakening the Quirk could give him the option to also grant intangibility to those he touches. For example, if this was something he could pull off during the Overhaul arc, he would probably have been able to get Eri out of danger much more easily. Because Mirio, unfortunately, was left without a Quirk for a good chunk of the story, he didn't really get a chance to push his Quirk to its limit, but it's still fun to theorize how this unique ability would function if it were even more powerful than it already is.
Star And Stripe
Make The Most Overpowered Ability In The Series Even More Absurd
- Quirk: New Order
- Description: Set Up To Two New Rules On Tangible Structures, Objects, And People
Some may argue that Star and Stripe's Quirk, New Order, is already so overpowered that it doesn't even need an Awakening. The truth is though, because Star is only in the story for a handful of chapters and episodes, there wouldn't have really been that much risk in seeing her push New Order as far as it could go, though if she had, it's hard to imagine how Shigaraki would have survived against her in their battle. New Order enables Star and Stripe to set her own rules for anything that she can touch. So for example, if she wants to set a rule where she is able to physically hold a laser beam, or a rule where Shigaraki's heart will stop beating if he moves a muscle, then she's able to pull all this off in a matter of seconds.
If New Order were ever Awakened, there are a few different ways that it could become even more powerful. The most obvious is giving Star the option to apply more than two rules at once, which is ultimately the biggest restriction of her Quirk. If Horikoshi wanted to get really crazy though, he could even make it so Star and Stripe is able to apply rules to intangible concepts, such as time and space itself. This would essentially make her a living god who would understandably need to be taken out of the story quickly to avoid her becoming too much of a problem later down the line, but considering that's already how things went down, it would have been a real treat to see the Awakening before she bid farewell.
