My Hero Academia might be Deku's story, but the members of Class 1-A play a massive role throughout the story. Some characters, like Bakugo and Todoroki, play major roles throughout, getting their own time to shine and contribute at major points in the story. Other Class 1-A members are there to play supporting roles.

While each member of Class 1-A has their own unique personality, one character who has been incredibly divisive among fans since the beginning is Mineta. Mineta's personality might rub some fans the wrong way, and compared to some of his other classmates, he's not all that interesting, both as a character and when it comes to his quirk. While he was never the main focus throughout the series, you can't help but think that Horikoshi would've been better off giving these characters some extra attention instead.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Reveals the Sad Truth of Pro Hero Retirement

Vigilantes explores the dark side of pro hero retirement, revealing the harsh realities street-level heroes face when hanging up their capes.

Mashirao Ojiro

Ojiro Mashirao

Ojiro's design really stands out, even among the colorful cast of characters who make up Class 1-A. Despite being one of the more visually striking members of the supporting cast, Ojiro is fairly reserved, staying in the background for most of the series.

From what we see of him throughout My Hero Academia, he's a great martial artist, and his Tail Quirk makes him great in close-range combat. But Ojiro doesn't get much time to shine on his own, often part of the group and playing a supporting role. While probably not a strong enough character to take on roles similar to Bakugo, Todoroki, or even Ida, giving Ojiro a big moment like what we got with Kirishima during the Shie Hassaikai Arc would've been great.

Mezo Shoji

Shoji is another of the more visually striking members of Class 1-A. While he has had his moments, it felt like he had the potential to be a really interesting character. But for whatever reason, he just never got enough development.

Shoji being a Heteromorph was explored a little in the series, but it was a topic that felt like Horikoshi could've done more with. We've seen some of the discrimination Heteromorphs face in the My Hero Academia world, but it often felt like an issue that took a backseat to other story threads. Some fans have criticized Horikoshi's handling of the Heteromorph narrative, but it could've been great had he spent a little more time developing it.

Kyoka Jiro

Jiro is definitely one of the most popular supporting characters in the series, being one of the most recognizable Class 1-A members. Though she can be pretty apathetic, she gets along with most of her classmates and is shown to be incredibly reliable when it matters most.

Jiro's love of music makes her stand out from her peers, and her Earphone Jack Quirk has come in handy more than a few times throughout the series. By the end of My Hero, we learn that Jiro has found success as both a pro hero and as a musician while also helping Eri along on her own musical journey. She might not have been in the spotlight much during the main series, but Jiro would be a great choice to lead a light-hearted spin-off sometime down the line.

Mina Ashido

mina ashido

Mina might not be one of the most prominent Class 1-A members, but she definitely stands out among the rest of the supporting cast. Her happy-go-lucky attitude and cheerful demeanor always brighten whatever scene she's in, and she's shown to be one of the most important students when it comes to keeping Class 1-A's morale up.

Aside from being a fun, happy character, Mina has also shown some admirable qualities that show her incredible potential as a hero. She's brave and willing to put herself in danger if it means helping others, and she has great chemistry with her classmates, making it easier for them to coordinate and work together. Mina has had some great moments in the series, though it wouldn't be surprising if most fans would've wanted to see her do more by the end of the series.

Toru Hagakure

picture: invisible girl in my hero academia.

Hagakure was the most overlooked member of Class 1-A for most of the series. Class 1-A has plenty of big personalities, so it must've been hard to give everyone their moment to shine early on, but the simplest explanation as to why Toru didn't stand out much has to do with her Quirk.

Hagakure's Invisibility Quirk made her an easy character to forget, simply because fans just didn't see her most of the time. Sure, she was drawn to be somewhat visible thanks to her costume, but she often felt like a background character until later on in the series. It would've been nice to have Toru get a little more time and development, if only to better flesh out Class 1-A's roster.

Hanta Sero

Hanta Sero fighting Setsuna in My Hero Academia

Sero was one of the more fun Class 1-A members, and while he was shown to be an important member of the group throughout the series, he never really got many chances to shine individually. His Tape Quirk might not seem like the most overpowered in the series, but he managed to use it pretty creatively, and Horikoshi himself stated that it was one of his favorite quirks.

Sero had a lot of potential to stand out on his own, but just never got the attention and development that he needed. That's not to say he was a bad character; he just felt like he needed to be fleshed out more than he was.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the "One-For-All" quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
