This article contains spoilers from My Hero Academia: Vigilantes.
My Hero Academia officially wraps up Izuku Midoriya’s hero journey with the conclusion of the final season. He successfully protected the world from All For One and Tomura Shigaraki even at the cost of One For All. Deku may be quirkless now, but he remains a powerful hero with the combat knowledge and experience required to utilize his new mechanical armor.
As the 2026 winter anime season comes in, My Hero Academia will be back with MHA: Vigilantes Season 2, where the main character isn’t Deku but Koichi Haimawari. And speaking of Koichi, the vigilante made an unexpected cameo in the aftermath of Deku’s climactic battle with the villains. That said, will Deku get a cameo and show up in MHA: Vigilantes?
Is My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Canon?
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is a spin-off show set to come out in April 2025 featuring a new main protagonist. But is it canon to the main series?
Izuku Midoriya Is Not Involved in MHA: Vigilantes
Deku Is Still a Child During MHA: Vigilantes
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is returning for Season 2 this 2026 winter season, shortly after the final season of the original series concluded. As fans know, the main character of the prequel of MHA is Koichi Haimawari, a college student who loves doing hero work even without a legitimate hero license. Instead of Deku leading MHA: Vigilantes, it's Koichi who completes odd jobs and performs heroic acts with his Slide and Glide quirk.
Naturally, many fans are curious whether they can spot Izuku Midoriya in MHA: Vigilantes. With Deku’s story now over, fans are on the lookout for his potential appearance in the new trailers of MHA: Vigilantes Season 2. However, given the timeline of Koichi’s story, fans won’t be seeing Deku for now. After all, the Vigilante prequel is set around five to six years prior to Deku’s enrollment at U.A. High School.
For now, it’s best for anime fans to revisit Izuku Midoriya’s journey in the previous seasons of My Hero Academia instead of looking for him in MHA: Vigilantes. The prequel is all about Koichi Haimawari and his vigilante work in the hero society alongside Pop Step and Knuckleduster. While there will be familiar faces involved in the prequel, Deku won’t be one of them.
MHA: Vigilantes Removed Izuku Midoriya’s Cameo
The Subtle Ways Deku Exists in MHA: Vigilantes
Since MHA: Vigilantes exists in the same universe as the original My Hero Academia series, it’s only natural for fans to spot subtle connections that tie Deku to the prequel. The first of which is Deku’s mother, Inko Midoriya, who appeared in the pilot episode of the anime. At that time, Koichi was doing his patrols in Naruhata when he helped a lost Inko and gave her directions.
In addition, the narrator for MHA: Vigilantes is none other than Daiki Yamashita, the same Japanese voice actor for Izuku Midoriya. Not to mention, the manga series usually gets promotional materials where Deku is included. Deku often appears in extra chapters of MHA: Vigilantes, asking questions about vigilantism alongside other characters and pro heroes.
If my actions can save any of them...then I've got to do something.—Izuku Midoriya
Unfortunately, Deku’s official cameo in MHA: Vigilantes Chapter 3 never made it into the first season of the anime adaptation. He was supposed to show up with All Might, but they didn’t make the cut, likely due to the episode’s pacing and consistency with the plot. If Deku were to appear early in MHA: Vigilantes, the timeline would be confusing to the viewers. However, this doesn’t mean that the anime won’t insert this scene into future installments.
Deku Could Still Appear in MHA: Vigilantes
Deku's Possible Appearance May Not Be What Fans Expect
As the face of My Hero Academia, it’s always possible for Deku to show up in MHA: Vigilantes. Just like Koichi, he could get a cameo appearance to please the fans who are constantly looking for his presence.
However, given his non-involvement in the plot, Deku’s appearance may not be what fans expect. He could only appear as a passerby, watching Koichi and the other vigilantes in action. The anime might even show him inside his home, in front of his computer, and watching his favorite All Might rescue clip. That said, fans should not expect much of Deku’s possible appearance in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes.
