Summary

  • Quirks in My Hero Academia lead to various exams that test students' abilities and determination.
  • From the Quirk Apprehension Test to the Provisional License Course, each exam challenges heroes differently.
  • Students need to master their Quirks, teamwork, and skills to succeed in their hero training journey.

The story of My Hero Academia is split up into two parts: the hero missions and the exams. While it's always a blast seeing Deku and the others going all-out to take down a dangerous villain, the exams can also provide fans with a glimpse at what all the students and Pro-Heroes are truly capable of. Additionally, they offer a nice change of pace from the non-stop action of most story arcs, allowing the cast to duke it out in a more casual setting where the stakes still feel high enough to be interesting, without the fate of the entire world being on the line.

There are several exams that heroes are forced to complete to earn their license, though these tests are far from easy, especially the later ones. Now that Deku has finished up all his exams and become a hero, it feels like the perfect time to analyze the academic side of My Hero Academia to understand which of these tests are the hardest, and what makes them each so challenging.

6 Quirk Apprehension Test

Though This Test Is The Easiest Of The Bunch, Those Who Don't Make An Impression Will Still Be Punished

  • Episodes: 5-6

Aizawa isn't the kind of teacher who enjoys learning about his students through written exams and assignments. Instead, on the very first day of the semester, he will always ask his class to partake in a Quirk Apprehension Test, which is essentially a collection of small sports activities which gives Aizawa a good idea of everyone's Quirks, alongside their personal strengths and weaknesses.

The test includes a 50-meter dash, grip strength, long jump, and a ball throw. All the students are encouraged to get creative with how they use their Quirks to come out on top in each activity. Though this is a rather easy-going test in comparison to the others, Aizawa does still make it clear that those who don't hold their weight will be seen as lacking potential, and will therefore be removed from the academy, ensuring it's not a total walk in the park.

5 U.A. Recommendation Entrance Exam

Exceptional Students Are Given A Chance To Prove Themselves

  • Episode: 59

Though this exam is only shown very briefly, it's still made clear that it's a test that is designed only for the most exceptional of students to take on. To determine whether a naturally-talented student can enter U.A. And start training to become a hero, they first need to go through the Recommendation Entrance Exam, which is separated into a written assignment, a practical exam, and an interview.

A collage of five anime characters that were voiced by Junichi Suwabe: Ryomen Sukuna from Jujutsu Kaisen, Yami Sukehiro from Black Clover, Grimmjow from Bleach, Leone Abbachio from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Shota Aizawa/Eraser Head from My Hero Academia.

The practical portion of the exam sees the students all partaking in a foot race stretching across three kilometers. Students are encouraged to use their Quirks to help give them a boost in the race, which is a rule Todoroki and Inasa make sure to take advantage of.

4 U.A. Entrance Exam

Holding Off A Swarm Of Giant Killer Robots Isn't Easy For Rookie U.A. Students

  • Episodes: 3-4

As the name suggests, the U.A. Entrance Exam determines whether or not somebody can officially be enrolled into U.A. To start their journey of becoming a hero. The exam itself is split into two parts. First comes the writing test, which already requires a lot of prior research and revision, but it's the practical exam that really separates the weak from the strong.

The goal is simple enough: take out as many Villain-Bots as possible to score points. Because of how surprisingly fast and durable these machines are, a student needs to have at least a decent understanding of their Quirk to fend them off. Thankfully, points can also be earned by rescuing other students from danger, as Midoriya comes to find out when he miraculously manages to pass despite not destroying a single robot.

3 Provisional Hero License Course

Heroes Are Given A Second Chance To Earn Their Provisional License If They Can Make It Through The Course

  • Episodes: 78-80

Considering how tough the Provisional License Exam is, students who end up failing will thankfully get a second chance to earn their license, but it takes a lot of work and dedication to get there. Students must first train for three whole months while also attending class and keeping up with their studies as part of this course.

My Hero Academia: 13 Characters With The Saddest Backstories

When it comes to sad and tragic backstories in My Hero Academia, these characters in the anime series have had it the worst.

As was proven by Bakugo and Todoroki, this non-stop training can already be pretty grueling, but the two of them eventually find themselves taking on the hardest challenge of them all: winning over a bunch of hyper-energetic children. These kids all possess pretty bizarre, and in some cases, powerful Quirks, meaning they can actually deal some significant damage if a hero gets on their bad side. In the end, Bakugo and Todoroki would have to think outside the box to get any of the kids to even crack the faintest smile.

2 Provisional License Exam

A Set Of Quirky Challenges To Test The Students' Reaction Skills

  • Episodes: 53-59

The purpose of the Provisional License Exam is not necessarily to test how strong the students are, but how they react in high-stakes situations. The first stage of the exam involves everyone placing small blue symbols on their body, which will light up if they make contact with the bouncy balls scattered around the arena. A hero needs to be fast on their feet to avoid being struck by their opponents, but having a versatile or defensive Quirk, such as Fumikage's Dark Shadow or Mina's Acid, can also be useful for keeping the balls at bay.

After enough students have been knocked out of the first phase, the arena will then automatically self-destruct, leaving a barren wasteland full of dirt and debris. This is where the Help Us Company comes into play. These guys are old and frail civilians whom the heroes must rescue, all while fending off a Pro-Hero or two at the same time. Needless to say, only the best of the best stand a chance of making it through the exam and earning their Provisional License.

1 First Term Final Exam

First Semester Ends With Each Student Taking On A Powerful Pro-Hero

  • Episodes: 34-37

By the time most students reach the end of their first semester, they will have gotten familiar enough with their Quirk ability to know how and when to use it in combat. To test this, the final exam puts the students in teams of two and tasks them with overcoming a Pro-Hero, who are all known for being freakishly strong. Considering how drastically different all the Pro-Heroes are in their fighting styles and techniques, it makes preparing for the final exam extremely difficult.

In fact, many of the students would struggle a lot to make it through this section of their academic career. Denki, Mina, Eijiro and Rikido all fail the practical test, showing just how tricky it can be to find a way to counteract these powerful heroes. This isn't even mentioning the writing exam which goes on for three whole days, adding to the difficulty of the exam as a whole.
