My Hero Academia’s antagonistic landscape has been overrun by the League of Villains since the very beginning, yet the villains doing most of the grunt work are bioengineered artificial humans called Nomus. The very first Nomu made its appearance back in season 1, and their reign of terror has continued till the latest season of My Hero Academia, reflecting their significance in the series’ villainy.
However, “Nomu” itself is an umbrella term that comprises five different variants of these artificial monsters, starting from fickle Low-Tiers all the way up to sentient High-Ends, which are deemed the epitome of Dr. Garaki’s works. With multiple quirks, active cognition, and superhuman strength, High-Ends have proven to be the heroes’ biggest nightmare.

What are High-End Nomu?
Viewers are acquainted with several Upper-Tier Nomus that were able to take on the heroes head on, such as the Nomu witnessed in the USJ incident. Compared to those beasts, however, High-Ends are in an entirely different league, with strength great enough to overwhelm the top ten Pro Heroes. High-Ends have been shown to overpower the heroes in a one-on-one fight, meaning these bioengineered monsters are far stronger than any single Pro Hero.
They are servants worthy of serving the King of Villains.
The key difference between Upper-Tier and High-Ends lies in the latter’s coherent speech and functioning cognitive faculties. This essentially deems them complete artificial humans, as they can think and deduce the abilities of others, and even form a strategy to counter their opponents. The first High-End, Hood, who fought Endeavor, was able to deduce the No. 1 Heroes’ weakness, while the High-End known as Woman figured out Eraser Head’s quirk and immediately broke line of sight.
How Are High-End Nomus Created?
Unlike regular Nomus, High-Ends are created using the corpses of villains known for their thirst for battle. Since these Nomus retain their original personalities, Dr. Garaki has hand-picked villains known for going on a frenzy. The entire process of finding the right base and suitable quirks is extremely intricate and time-consuming, which is why Garaki was never able to mass-produce High-End Nomus.
All For One can tremendously speed up the process of creating Nomus, but without his quirk-endowing powers, the entire process can take months. The intricate surgery needed to transplant quirks into these High-Ends can take a minimum of three months, even more if their stabilization is incomplete.
Near High-End Nomu

Near High-End’s are a slightly inferior form of the true High-End Nomus. These Nomus possess the same superhuman strength and speed of their High-End counterparts. However the only difference lies in their lack of cognitive faculties, meaning Near High-Ends are merely mindless soldiers that can only follow orders from their master. They don’t have the ability to speak, nor can they think for themselves.
They are the closest things to a High-End.
Apart from this major difference, Near High-Ends aren’t exactly that far off from their complete counterparts, as they possess the same multi-quirks and unrivaled strength. Since these Nomus aren’t heavily tested by Garaki, nor do they need an immense amount of time to be created, Near High-Ends can easily be mass-produced.
The Strongest High-End Nomus
While a handful of High-End Nomus have been revealed, especially during the heroes’ raid on Jaku General Hospital, only a few proved to be exceptionally strong soldiers. With multiple quirks, adaptability, and intelligence, these High-Ends are the heroes’ biggest threat, second only to Shigaraki.
The most prominent High-Ends are Kurogiri and Hood, with the Nomus revealed during the Jaku City raid following suit. While most of these artificial beings possess similar quirks, such as Super Regeneration, some possess a few deviations that grant each one a unique identity.

While Kurogiri’s true identity was revealed further down the line, he is technically the first High-End Nomu to be revealed in My Hero Academia. Kurogiri was created by reanimating Oboro Shirakumo, a U.A. High student who was killed in action, though it was later revealed to be a deliberate action on Garaki’s part. By mixing several other quirk factors with his quirk Cloud, Warp Gate was formed.

Kurogiri might be the weakest out of all the other Nomus, yet his high intelligence makes up for this drawback. Despite possessing a single quirk, he has been the League’s most crucial member, saving Shigraki on multiple occasions and even serving as a key element in all of their plans.

Hood was the first High-End Nomu sent in by the League to incite fear right after All Might’s retirement. Endeavor took the Nomu head on, yet the High-End’s abilities were far more than what the No. 1 Hero could handle. The battle left Endeavor at death’s doors, and if it weren’t for Hawk’s intervention, the Pro Hero would likely have met his demise.
With over five different quirks, coupled with superhuman strength and speed, Hood is arguably the strongest High-End Nomu in the series. The few quirks in his arsenal are Super Regeneration, Body Storage, Shoulder-Mounted Jets, and Limb Extension. It’s likely that Hood possessed even more quirks, but these were the only ones witnessed before its defeat.

The raid on Jaku General Hospital was a turning point for My Hero Academia, revealing an overpowered Shigaraki and his fleet of revamped Nomus. Out of all the High-Ends revealed in the raid, a few stood out as extremely powerful Nomus. The most striking of these High-Ends was Woman, who possessed Liquidation and Rupture among other quirks.
She was also able to deduce the workings of Eraser Head’s quirks, even adapting her fighting style based on the situation. While she was eventually defeated by the heroes, Woman left behind quite an impression, with some even branding her as the most intelligent Nomu after Kurogiri.
Chubs

While all five High-Ends possessed several unnamed quirks, Super Regeneration was the only quirk shared by all. However, Chubs’ fighting style only revolved around using this quirk in conjunction with its power to increase in size to bar the heroes from advancing further.
With a jet-like ability, Chubs can slam itself onto his opponents, later regenerating itself through Super Regeneration. Chubs was strong enough to take on three Pro Heroes simultaneously, even surviving till the very end before it was killed off by Shigaraki’s Decay.

Out of all the Nomus seen so far in My Hero Academia, Robot’s appearance is the most distinct, almost resembling an actual android. The High-End has a few robotic parts attached to it, though the rest of it resembles its Nomu kin. It’s the only Nomu to have its head entirely covered, since every other Nomu has its brains exposed.

Robot has several quirks, though its most prominent powers are its laser eye-beam and space-warping ability. Since it’s primarily a long-range Nomu, Robot was easily defeated by Mirko after she was able to close the gap between them.
Eleph

Eleph’s appearance resembles a humanoid elephant, with its gigantic body and long trunk resembling the animal. With a mix of muscle augmentation, Super Regeneration, and shoulder-jets, Eleph served as an impenetrable wall for the villains, greatly slowing down the heroes’ efforts.
Eleph was among the High-Ends that were able to survive till the end, though it later became a collateral in Shigaraki’s awakening. While Eleph and the other High-Ends were eventually defeated, they were all successful in tremendously weakening the Pro Heroes and their efforts.
