This article contains spoilers from the My Hero Academia series.
My Hero Academia has become an iconic shonen series, and, at the moment, it is definitely the biggest superhero anime out there. Sadly, the manga for this series officially wrapped up in 2024, and the anime is following suit with the final season, which is currently airing. With all the exciting content that's unfolding, My Hero Academia has also received many exciting projects, which also include a global popularity poll.
Kohei Horikoshi Recommends The New My Hero Academia Replacement To Fans
MHA has a new replacement recommended by Horikoshi - and it might be Shonen Jump's next big hit.
The results of the global popularity poll have now surfaced, with Horikoshi drawing an illustration of the top 10 winners. On top of that, the winner of the poll also received his own statue. As many fans expected based on past results, Bakugo was the winner of the MHA Global Popularity Poll, and this victory of his has now been commemorated with his very own statue. Bakugo’s rise in popularity has surprised many, including his own creator, Kohei Horikoshi. Horikoshi definitely believed Bakugo would be hated, but the reception has been the complete opposite.
Deku is the Main Character, But Bakugo Has Won The Global Popularity Poll
- Bakugo Has Won Almost Every MHA Popularity Poll
- Bakugo’s Win Will Be Celebrated With A New Statue
My Hero Academia held a global popularity poll last year where fans from all over the world could cast votes for their favorite characters, no matter where they lived. This was very exciting for fans all over the world, even though the results divided the community.
As was revealed long ago, Bakugo ended up as the winner of the poll, and he won by a huge landslide. Meanwhile, the actual protagonist, Izuku Midoriya, finished second, and the score difference was quite major. Usually, the main character is the most popular in any series, but that isn’t the case with MHA as Deku has lost all but the very first popularity poll to none other than Bakugo. Even in the first poll, it must be noted that the number of fans voting was far lower, and it was held before most characters really established themselves, so it definitely holds the least weight.
My Hero Academia Anime Is Officially Ending, But A New Big Project Is Confirmed
MHA season 8 is the final season of the anime, but a new project is brewing.
Bakugo keeps on proving just how much more popular than the rest he is, as nobody has been able to dethrone him since his rise to the top. In the illustration drawn by Horikoshi for the top ten winners of the poll, Bakugo was front and central, which was the author’s way of paying tribute to him. But, even bigger things have unfolded for him recently. Indeed, Bakugo has now received his own statue to celebrate his win.
Bakugo’s Popularity Has Surprised Many, Including Horikoshi
Horikoshi Expected Bakugo To Be Disliked
Bakugo is undoubtedly, and by far, the most popular character the MHA series has to offer. He has captivated fans worldwide, and yet, many are surprised by the fact that he is so popular, including the creator of MHA.
As was revealed by the creator of MHA, he did not expect Bakugo to be so popular. In fact, he thought he would be disliked. After all, Bakugo was, for a long time, a huge bully. He hurt Deku in many ways, both physically and mentally. His character development has definitely fixed his behavior for the most part, but he still used to win the popularity polls long before that.
Q: Is there a character that you've created that fans reacted to in a way you didn't expect?
Horikoshi: Bakugo has been a bit of a surprise. I assumed everyone would hate him, but it's been the opposite. In the character questionnaires we do, Bakugo comes in #1 most popular.
The My Hero Academia manga concluded with 431 chapters for fans to read. All these chapters can be found on Manga Plus. When it comes to the anime, this series is now airing its final Season, MHA Season 8, which will consist of 12 episodes in total. The series can be watched on Crunchyroll.
