This article may contain spoilers from My Hero Academia.

My Hero Academia fans are eagerly waiting for the return of their beloved author, Kohei Horikoshi, to Weekly Shonen Jump. As fans are aware, Kohei Horikoshi wrapped up his first major manga, My Hero Academia, last year, in late 2024. The ending of My Hero Academia didn't come as a shock to any fan, but knowing that it was coming certainly didn't make it any easier to accept. While fans were devastated by My Hero Academia's ending, what's even more dire was the state of Weekly Shonen Jump after Horikoshi's leaving, especially as Gege Akutami left at the same time due to Jujutsu Kaisen officially reaching its end too.

Naturally, Jump is looking for seasoned managaka to make a return, and Gege Akutami has already returned with a new short manga, called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, which is a direct sequel to JJK. Now, Kohei Horikoshi is also looking to make a return, and fans already know that he's planning to write a new series. Recently, in an interview with Hokazono of Kagurabachi, Kohei Horikoshi officially confirmed once again that he intends to draw a new manga and make his grand return to Jump.

  • Horikoshi knows the burden of Jump

It is no surprise that after My Hero Academia, Kohei Horikoshi wants to draw a new manga series. Usually, young manga artists tend to draw more than one story, and long-running manga aren't as common as one would think. For Kohei Horikoshi, who is still very young, drawing a new manga was always a given.

Initially, Horikoshi only wanted to write the story for the next manga and not illustrate it himself, but after speaking to Jump, he was persuaded to draw his own story himself. In other words, the next manga by Kohei Horikoshi is most certainly going to be drawn and illustrated by him. Horikoshi previously mentioned that light work on the manga has begun, which means it won't take too long for it to hit Jump officially.

More recently, Kohei Horikoshi confirmed once again that he wants to return to Jump and draw another manga. He explained that working in Jump is a burden that few can handle and he is one of them, as a now seasoned mangaka. Here's Horikoshi's whole conversation with Kagurabachi's Hokazono in a very recent interview:

Q: Horikoshi Sensei, please give a short message to Hokazono Sensei.

Horikoshi: Hokazono-san, do you have something you want to say to me? (Laughs)

Hokazono: I do, I do. Please draw a new series soon.

Horikoshi: I want to draw one.

Hokazono: I'd be thrilled if more people joined me in the weekly serialization battle. (Laughs)

Horikoshi: It's because there aren't many people who can share this burden and struggle. It's a very unique profession

Horikoshi's New Series Could Come Out In 2026

Horikoshi Has Already Begun Planning The New Manga

Deku declares that he's here! - My Hero Academia

Given that work on it began in 2025, it is fair to assume that Kohei Horikoshi will make his grand return with a new manga series in 2026. Gege Akutami has already made his return with a new manga, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, although he isn't illustrating his new series. For Kohei Horikoshi, the planning will probably take longer, but given the recent statements, it is fair to assume that it won't be long before it is officially out. Right now, Shonen Jump only has One Piece as a big manga series. It does have a few gems in Kagurabachi and Ichi the Witch, but Horikoshi's return is absolutely needed.
