My Hero Academia has become an absolute sensation, and one of the biggest anime series in history over the last 10 years. With its final season currently airing, every fan of the series has been tuning in to witness the curtain fall on the brilliant piece of media written by Kohei Horikoshi. My Hero Academia’s manga already ended a year ago, and with the anime following suit, fans are worried about the future of the franchise. While it is indeed a valid concern, it seems that Horikoshi already has his next project planned for the My Hero Academia franchise.

Horikoshi, the creator of MHA, is deeply involved in the upcoming new live-action movie for the series, created by Netflix. With his guidance, this new project is likely to turn out far better than expected, so naturally, fans are less worried about the adaptation. Many fans are excited for the MHA live-action movie, but it doesn’t have a release date yet.

My Hero Academia Season 8, the final season of the series, is currently ongoing. While it's been a phenomenal ride so far, it is also the shortest season yet, with just 11 episodes in total. The season is already past the halfway point, and fans have definitely started to wonder what comes after. While fans have My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Season 2 to look forward to in 2026, many crave more MHA content. Fans definitely want to see more of the original cast, instead of brand-new characters, and Horikoshi’s next project might just fulfill their wishes.

Indeed, for quite a few years now, Netflix has been working on a MHA live-action movie. Live-action adaptations of anime series have always worried fans since they don't tend to turn out all that great. Over the tests, they have developed a very bad reputation with franchises such as Dragon Ball or Death Note.

The worries are definitely valid, but it has been revealed that Horikoshi is actually deeply involved with Netflix on this matter. Horikoshi is at the forefront of this production, so fans can, at the very least, expect a project that fits his vision.

Furthermore, Netflix recently had success with the One Piece live-action series. If MHA’s movie is a success, it wouldn’t be surprising if Netflix decides to fully adapt the series, just like it’s trying to do with One Piece.

"There's no treatment, there's no outline, there's no scenes, there's no nothing that Kōhei doesn't give notes on, react to [with] thumbs up, thumbs down. That makes me feel really confident that we're gonna deliver something that fans, like myself, feel great about. You want to do something that feels authentic to the material. You want to do something that fans feel respects the canon and the original, but also find an access point for people who've never read [the manga], who's never seen the first films." — Jason Fuchs

My Hero Academia’s live-action movie has been in the works for 7 years now. With so much time having passed, fans would expect the project to already be done. However, that couldn’t be further from reality.

For whatever reason, it seems this project kept getting delayed, and only recently has serious work on it begun. The movie is still in very early production phases, so fans shouldn’t expect it anytime before 2027.
